Edward Budelis Obituary

Edward M. Budelis, 85, of Eldersburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 4, 2012.

Born Nov. 23, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Magdalena Sakavicius Budelis. He was the husband of Anne T. Budelis, his wife of 61 years.

He was an Army veteran, having served in Europe during World War II. He had taught in Baltimore County high schools for more than 27 years.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post No. 223 in Sykesville. He enjoyed gardening, reading and traveling.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters Mary B. Kerney and husband Jay, Adele B. Sadosky and husband Chet, and Monica A. Dailey and husband Terry; sons Andrew M. Budelis and wife Susan, and Joseph A. Budelis; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Edward Budelis, who died Sept. 23, 1953; two brothers; and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Church, 114 W. Saratoga St., Baltimore. Interment, with military honors, will be in Baltimore National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Alphonsus Church, Restoration Fund, 114 W. Saratoga St., Baltimore, MD 21201.

One of our committee members, Sandi Brown-Jordan, on our CHS Class of 1962 posted Mr. Budelis' obituary today on our class website. I was shocked and saddened to read this. I had 'found' Mr. Budelis a few months back and I had a wonderful conversation with him about our upcoming 50th high school reunion on September 29. He was planning to come UNTIL he heard the date and said he knew he could not make it on that date because his dear grandson was getting married. He sounded so excited and proud about the wedding. We had communicated a few times via emails after that. I had him for an English teacher and I always looked forward to going to his class. I send my condolences to his loving family and know that our Class of 1962 from Catonsville High will miss him.

We just read the obit today. An hour too late for the funeral.
He shared his passion for family history with me for years. I was looking forward to sharing the birth of my soon to be grandniece for him to add to "our" family tree.
He was the patriarch of the Sakavicius family.

I will miss Ed. He and I were in the same class at Calvert Hall and both of us went to VMI in Lexington, VA after graduation.
Was looking forward to seeing him at our Calvert Hall class of 1944 reunion in 2014.
