Frederick S. "Steve" Kern Sr.

Frederick Steven "Steve" Kern, Sr., 54, of Moorefield, W.Va., formerly of Westminster, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2012, at home.

Born Jan. 15, 1958, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Walter Lindenberg Kern and Mary Ann Cool Kern. He was the husband of Susan Petenbrink Kern, his wife of 27 years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Frederick Steven Kern Jr. and Jay Alan Kern, of Moorefield; daughters Crystal Kern and Brittany Whittaker, of Moorefield, Amanda Kern, of Mathias, W.Va., and Jo Anne Parsons, of Millersville; brothers William Kern, of Westminster, Ronnie Kern, of Coolsville, Ohio, and Gene Kern, of Hanover, Pa.; a sister, Mary Ann Thompson, of York, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at  Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Ray Shutt officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hampstead.
