George Crouse Obituary

George Harry Ulysses Crouse, 73, of New Windsor, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Carroll Hospital Center, after an extended illness. Born Sept. 7, 1937, in Middleburg, he was the son of the late Paul and Helen Lambert Crouse. He served in the Army for 22 years with two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star Medal. Following his time in the service he was employed for 25 years with Congoleum, retiring in 2000. He was a member of American Legion Post 31 and the Loyal Order of Moose, both of Westminster. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, yard work, landscaping and model railroading. Surviving are daughter Sylvia Neiderer and husband Bill, of Hanover, Pa.; sons Gregory Paul Crouse and Sean M. Crouse, both of Westminster; grandchildren David J. Bruce and Megan E. Bruce, of Hanover; a step-granddaughter, Samantha Neiderer, of Hanover; sisters Thelma J. Reaver, of Westminster, and Deanna Sell, of Taneytown; and a brother, Byron Crouse and wife Shirley, of Taneytown. He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Harner; and a brother, Wayne Crouse. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Clementson, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Uniontown.
