Harry Frantum Obituary

Harry Theodore "Ted" Frantum, Jr., 101, of Westminster and formerly of Annapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at his home. Ted was born on January 6, 1921 in Annapolis to the late Edith Mae and Harry Theodore Frantum, Sr. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine "Kay" Margaret Kaiser Frantum who predeceased him in 2013. In addition to his parents and wife, Ted was predeceased by brothers Wallace Frantum and Douglas Frantum. Ted was a proud World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer in the European theatre of operations from 1944 to 1946. He was recognized with a battle star and unit citation for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He studied civil engineering while in the service. After returning to civilian life, he completed his studies graduating in 1950. He joined a surveying and engineering firm, J. R. McCrone Engineering, and was a lifelong surveyor in Maryland until his retirement in 1980. He is survived by two nephews, Patrick Frantum and Wallace Frantum Jr, and his dear friends, Diana "Dee" and Don Akers of Warrenton, VA, Lou and Judy Piel of Westminster, Sandy Essich and many friends at Carroll Lutheran Village. He also leaves Iain, his dear "Westie". Ted enjoyed many hobbies including swimming, boating, dancing, and traveling. At his death, Ted was the oldest member of the Annapolis Yacht Club which he joined in 1950. He enjoyed travelling the U.S. and world-wide with his wife and friends. He particularly enjoyed spending time in Ocean City Maryland. A visitation for Ted will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 10-10:30am at Carroll Lutheran Village's Krug Chapel, 300 St Luke Cir, Westminster where his funeral service will begin at 10:30am. Please allow a few extra minutes to complete a COVID contact tracing form and a temperature check at the chapel. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W Central Ave, Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ted's name, may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, PO Box 511, Finksburg, MD 21048; Bridging Life Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD 21157; or World War II Museum, 945 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70130 Online condolences may be offered at www.prittsfuneralhome.com.
