James Carlock Obituary

James Carlock (Jim) died peacefully at home on October 31, 2025 at the age of 78. He was born James Daniel Carlock on March 10, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Mildred and George Carlock. After graduating from Berry High School in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning home, he enrolled at Georgia Tech University where he earned his degree in electrical engineering and began work at Westinghouse. In 1975, he married Darlene Allen and they began their life together. The two of them lived in Iran, Germany, and Seattle before settling in Mount Airy, Maryland where he also earned his Master' Degree from Loyola University. He retired from Northrop Grumman after 45 years of dedicated service. Some of his accomplishments included working on the AWACS program, the Apache Helicopter Project, Post Office projects, and the H3 project. Throughout his life, Jim was a member of the Lions Club, the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Woodbine, played baseball, and was an avid baseball fan who loved to follow the Orioles and Braves. He was also a world traveler who visited 31 countries and 48 states, as well as hiked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage four times. Jim loved reading, doing puzzles of all kinds, walking, trivia, watching British tv shows, and sharing his love of science fiction with his daughter. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was being a father to his beloved daughter, Stephanie. You could find him in the audience at all of her school concerts, college performances, and musical theater performances as she grew up. He proudly attended many middle school concerts and local community theater productions while supporting her teaching career. Jim is preceded in death by his devoted wife Darlene Carlock, his parents Mildred Love and George Carlock, brothers Ronnie Carlock and Richard Carlock. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Carlock (Bobby), brother Bill Carlock (Barbara), nieces Kristy Carlock and Melissa Nguyen (Vu), half brother Brian Love, and his friend of almost 60 years George Paszkowsky. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jim's life will be held on November 22 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church 4901 Woodbine Road Sykesville, MD 21784. Visitation will be from 11 AM with a service at 12 noon and a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, NPR, MPT, or WETA. Online condolences at www.Burrier-Queen.com.
