Janis Destin Obituary
She was born on April 19, 1919, in Dayton, Ohio. Known for her piercing cobalt eyes, contagious laugh, and quick-stepping dance moves, Janis made an impression on anyone who came into her presence. But her most significant impact was on those who bask in her legacy: her family. Though no stranger to the spotlight, Janis' most profound passion for life thrived under the beam of love she poured out on her husband, children and grandchildren. They are all the better for having loved, and been loved by, the stunning gentleness of one Janis Muriel Destin. Janis spent much of her younger years as a professional tap dancer and later as a dance instructor.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Bowers; and Harold J. Bowers, her first husband; a granddaughter, Kimberly Dunton; her parents, Charles and Muriel Gastineau; sisters, June Wolsfield, June Grinsted and Dean Daniels; and brothers, Robert Gastineau and George Gastineau.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John D. Destin of Destin; daughter, Colleen Dunton of Destin; son-in-law, James A. Dunton of Destin; grandson, James Dunton III and his wife Stacie; granddaughters, Natalie Dunton Deloge and her husband Leo, Becky Bowers-Greene and her husband Steve, and Katie Bowers; great-grandchildren, Kristen Prestwood, Ashten Prestwood, Dylan Prestwood, Alexis Dunton, Michael and Donovan Greene, Leo Deloge III, Logan Deloge, Lydia Deloge, Tara Denny and Coy McKenna; great-great-grandchildren, Landen, Ryan and Haley; brother, Charles Gastineau and wife Dot; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bowers.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Davis Watkins Funeral Home, 8 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., with complimentary valet parking.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at Immanuel Anglican Church, 250 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin.
Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578, in Janis's memory.
