Joan Claire Bevard

Joan Claire Bevard, was born in Baltimore City, Maryland to Edgar C. and Dorothy M. Murphy, December 28, 1938. She passed away at home, October 2, 2022, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. Joan was the oldest of seven children and loved her parents, brothers, and sisters dearly. She and her husband of 57 years, John F. Bevard, raised four children together, teaching them the importance of family, love, and faithfulness. Joan graduated from St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing September 1960 and maintained her Registered Nurse license for 50 years, finishing her career at Fairhaven in Sykesville, Maryland. She was an excellent cook and inspired all of her children to be accomplished in the kitchen as well. Joan valued sharing evening meals together with her husband and children and initiated the annual Murphy family Thanksgiving reunion, spanning decades, with Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble games being some of the highlights. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John F. Bevard; four siblings: Patricia Myers & husband George, of Lancaster, PA; Edgar Murphy of Glyndon, MD, Kathleen Murphy & husband Roy of Clearwater, FL; Jane Ottinger & husband Lee of Sparks, MD; four adult children: daughter, Elizabeth Grigoleit & husband Kurt of Red Wing, MN; Son, Franklin S. Bevard & wife Laura of Westminster, MD; Son, John W. Bevard & wife Terri of Sykesville, MD; Daughter, Ellen Sheely & husband Vaughn of Owings Mills, MD. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Caitlin Delph & husband Bobby; Allison Kunkemoeller & husband Eric; Richard Grigoleit; Ryan Grigoleit & wife Sara; Katherine Grigoleit; Abby Bevard; John L. Bevard and three great grandchildren. A celebration of Joan's life memorial is planned for October 23, 2022, from 1:00PM-3:00PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, located on 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, Maryland, 21784.
