JoAnn Harris-Bowlsbey

JoAnn Harris-Bowlsbey passed away on April 12, 2022 at home. A resident of Finksburg, she is pre-deceased by her husband L. Stanley Bowlsbey, who served as Dean of the Graduate School at McDaniel College for more than 20 years. She treasured their 34-year marriage and the relationship she enjoyed with his family. JoAnn's long life was filled with many fulfilling activities and opportunities. She loved travel and conducted many tours all over the world in her early adult years. She was a lover of water and enjoyed boating and skiing as well as having homes in Ocean City, NJ and Fort Myers, FL. She was an avid dog lover, owning five toy poodles in sequence. She loved the wooded land that she and Stan lived on and the many hand-in-hand walks in those deer-filled woods and on the five-mile boardwalk of Ocean City, NJ. She loved to sing and was a long-term member of The National Christian Choir. She basked in the love of many good personal and professional friends. She had deep faith and spiritual commitment that guided her life. JoAnn began her professional career at the age of 19 when she began teaching Spanish in a suburban high school west of Chicago. From that position she moved to high school counselor, director of guidance, college professor, college counselor, and administrator. She held master's degrees in Spanish and Counseling and a doctorate in Counselor Education. She was a pioneer in developing computer-assisted systems designed to assist young people and adults with education and career planning. These systems are used in the United States and internationally to assist millions. She was also author of many profession journal articles, book chapters as well as co-author of a major textbook. There will be a private graveside service in Elkton, MD with burial alongside Stan. Donations many be made in her memory to The National Christian Choir, P.O. Box 1600, Germantown, MD 20875.
