John Wanda Obituary

John Wanda. Jr., 79, of Westminster passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 20, 2021, at his home as the result of a tragic accident. John was the cherished husband of Marilyn A. Wanda, his wife of 58 years. John was born on July 16, 1942, in Baltimore to Della Marie Meise Wanda of Delaware, and the late John Wanda, Sr. He was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School - Class of 1962. John was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Reserves, 1962-1968. He retired from Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point after working over 45 years in the Tin Mill as a scheduling clerk. He was known as the "Apple and Egg Man" throughout the Mill, as he sold fresh apples from Baugher's Orchard and eggs from Carroll County to his coworkers for many years. In addition to his wife, John is survived by two children, Brian Wanda and wife Corina of Hughesville, MD; and Kimberly Peach and partner Richard of Yonkers, NY; three grandchildren: Alex Wanda, Cody Wanda, and Bo Wanda; two siblings, Carolyn Kline of DE and Charlene Itzel and husband Dave of Baltimore. He also leaves nieces and nephews, Lori, Teri, Charles, Brenda, Carol and Tammy and cousins, including Albert, Maryhelena, Michael, Link, Jack, and Willy. John and his wife Marilyn have attended Crosswind Church in Westminster. He volunteered at the 4-H Fair at the Carroll County Ag Center. John and Marilyn met through their mutual love of horses, which led them to build their homestead in rural Silver Run, MD fifty years ago. John and Marilyn worked hand-in-hand, proudly maintaining their property as a labor of love. One of John's greatest joys was bringing his family together for annual family reunions, affording generations lasting and treasured memories of camping, bonfires, swimming, games, and great food. John loved to visit family on the Eastern Shore and eat oysters and crabs. You would usually find him working outside at home, on his tractor, mowing grass and utilizing his woods to provide heat for his home throughout the winter. John kept an open door to his neighbors who cherished his readiness to help with any project. His family will welcome friends Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd, Westminster. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 11 am. The family requests that all guests do their part to make this a safe event by wearing a mask. Unvaccinated visitors please, get tested for COVID-19 before arrival to protect elderly attendees. Interment will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery, Westminster.
