Martha Hyson Obituary

Martha Cornelia Hyson, beloved daughter, wife, mother, friend and pillar of the Hampstead community passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024 at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born in Baltimore on July 18, 1936 she was the only child of Emory Edgar Martin and Lola Cullison Martin. She was married to a local Hampstead man, Richard N. Hyson, in 1957. Together they made an idyllic life raising two daughters, while tending their orchard and gardens in Hampstead. Martha enjoyed entertaining her friends and family, decorating their home and always looking her best. Martha was an extraordinary homemaker and a devoted, tireless and active member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and was involved with several church committees. She was diligent in the Vaughn Women's Club of Hampstead and served as President of the organization. She was also an active member of the Local Homemakers and volunteered with the Carroll County Historical Society and 4-H Club. She enjoyed traveling with husband Richard and friends. Martha is survived by her two daughters Miriam E. Hyson and husband Monty L. Aviles of Baltimore, MD and Susan H. Morehead and husband Bryan D. Morehead of Lakemont, GA. The family invites friends to attend a memorial visitation at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hampstead on Thursday, February 8th from 10-11am. Martha's Memorial Service will begin at 11am in the Sanctuary. Committal services at Hampstead Cemetery will be private, where Martha will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Richard. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund: 1373 N. Main St. Hampstead, MD 21074 and or Carroll Lutheran Village Krug Chapel Fund at 300 St. Luke Circle Westminster, MD 21158.

It is impossible to hear "St. Mark's Hampstead" and not think of Martha Hyson. Her presence and contributions to the church for my entire life were innumerable. She is now with Richard again. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Remembering Martha from our days at Forest Park and our reunion group luncheons-she was a busy woman who always had even more time if someone needed anything-we will miss her.

Martha and I grew up around the corner from each other and went from Kindergarten through 12 grade tiger and kept in touch throughout our 87 years. She was a good and caring person and fun to be around. My sincere sympathy to her family and friends. I have lots of good memories of our friendship and may God grant her eternal rest.
