Mary A. Hare

Mary Alice Hare, 78, of Millers, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at home.

Born Dec. 12, 1935, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Lannie Grover and Carrie Smith Harper. She was the wife of Gene O. Hare, her husband of 52 years.

Years ago she worked as a hairdresser at Hecht's Department Store in Baltimore and owned her own shop, and later she was a sales clerk for Leggetts Department Store. She was a member of Millers United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Millers Ladies Aid and enjoyed cooking meals at the church picnic woods. She also enjoyed gardening and time with her dog Bo.

Surviving are daughters Sherry Rill and husband Allen, of Westminster, and Carol Sheffler and husband David, of Manchester; grandchildren Allison and Cassidy Rill, and Nicholas and Natalie Sheffler; siblings Roy Harper, of Millers, Richard Harper, of the Eastern Shore, Betty Moyer, of South Carolina, and Birtie Martin, of Hampstead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings Paul, Grove, Mable and Blair Harper, Rose Fowler and Katherine Warehime.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m. Monday at Millers United Methodist Church, 3435 Warehime Road, Millers, with the Rev. Jeffrey Odom officiating. Interment will be in Millers United Methodist Church Cemetery in Millers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Millers United Methodist Church Picnic Woods Renovation Fund, 3435 Warehime Road, Millers, MD 21102.
