Paul Lathe Obituary

Paul B. Lathe, 68, of Union Mills, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at home. Born July 31, 1943, in Owings Mills, he was the son of the late Bert and Eleanor Hottle Lathe. Before retiring in 2008, he had worked for C. Bruce Carlson doing work primarily for Colonial Pipeline. He had served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed cars, the faster the better, especially Chevrolets. He had the opportunity in the early 1990s to work for a season as his friend's pit crew chief for his NHRA dragster, traveling all over the country. He liked to take weekend drives in his convertible Corvette with his daughter, often ending up at a classic car show. He kept his car spotless. He attended practices, games and events that his grandsons participated in, including supporting their Cub Scout pack popcorn fundraisers. He also enjoyed keeping a well-manicured lawn and tending to his vegetable garden. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Paula Lathe Mock and Randy Mock, of Manchester; sisters and brother-in-law Margaret Britt, of Westminster, and Sunnie and Herb Kronk, of Edmond, Okla.; and grandsons Kyle Paul Mock and Christopher Scott Mock. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Bragg officiating. Interment will be in Mount Paran Cemetery in Randallstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to SPOHNC Inc. (Support for People with Oral and Head and Neck Cancer), P.O. Box 53, Locust Valley, NY 11560-0053. I worked with Paul for many years at Colonial Pipeline Company. He was always a pleasure to work with. His easy going manner and knowledge of the pipeline will be missed. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
