R. Roop Obituary

Robert Scott Roop, affectionately known as "Scottie," passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the age of 75, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 28, 1949, in Hanover, PA, Scott was the son of the late Rauland H. and T. Ann Roop. Scott is survived by his devoted children and their spouses: Michael N. Roop and his wife, Michelle, of Westminster; Timothy S. Roop and his wife, Angela, of New Windsor; and Kitty A. Owings and her husband, Jesse, of Westminster. He was a proud grandfather to Michael Jr., Kyle, Miranda, Ciana, Kristen, Hailey, Adam, Ryan, Shawn, and Jesse, and a cherished great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren. Scott is also survived by his siblings, R. Steven Roop of Texas, Samuel K. Roop and his wife, Mary Jane, of Thurmont, and Jan Stambaugh of Delaware; as well as by Tom Parrish, who was like a brother to him. His memory will also be treasured by his aunt, Brenda Roop, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Phyllis A. Pineda, his sister-in-law, Vickie Roop, and his brother-in-law, Charlie Stambaugh. A 1968 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, Scott answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served honorably in Thailand for more than 1 year during the Vietnam War, a testament to his deep love for his country. Scott dedicated his life to farming, working as a dairy and beef farmer at his farm, Wooden Hill Farm in New Windsor. In addition to farming, he was a skilled truck driver, hauling for Mitchell Transport and spending 20 years with Schwerman Trucking, which later became North American Bulk Transport. Even after his retirement, his passion for work led him to continue hauling grain on the farm and for the Lease Brothers. A proud and active member of his community, Scott was a life member of both the VFW Post 8806 in Union Bridge, where he held numerous positions and served 9 years as Post Commander, and the American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown; as well as a member of the American Legion Post 282 in Woodsboro and FOE Eagles 2226 in Littlestown, PA. Scott was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and cherished his weekly breakfasts at Buttersburg with his buddies. He had a deep appreciation for John Deere tractors and took great joy in spending time on his front porch, overlooking his farm, the cows, and the countryside. His unforgettable grin will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Union Bridge Firemen's Building, 8 W. Locust Street. A funeral service will take place at the fire hall on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Leatherman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sinai Hospital, LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute, 2401 W. Belvedere Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215, or VFW Post 8806, PO Box 55, Union Bridge, MD 21791. Mike, Timmy & Kitty. Sorry to read about your loss, your father was one of a kind. The king of one liners, his smile that let you in on the joke but most of all I´ll miss the talks and advice. Scottie was a good man.
