Robert Driver Obituary

Robert Eugene Driver, age 94, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, died Monday, September 22, 2025, at his home. He was born September 16, 1931, in Mt. Airy, Maryland, the son of the late William Rufus Driver and the late Florence Edith Driver (nee Rimbey). He was preceded in death by sisters Hazel Driver, and Hattie Coleman (nee Driver); He was the husband of the late Mary Matteline Driver (nee Ledford) of 57 years. He was the father of Floyd Driver, Michael Driver, and wife Susan; grandchildren Elisabeth Driver, Andrew Driver and wife Olivia, and Matthew Driver and Hannah Runkles and Great Grandson Clyde Driver. He is also survived by a beloved nephew Ronald Coleman and wife June, niece Glenda Coleman-March and many cousins. A good friend Dan Pollen who took him on many rides and got him out of the house to break up the monotony. He attended Mt. Airy School through the seventh grade and begged his parents relentlessly to let him quit and work on the family farm. A decision he later regretted. During the Fifties he had over a thousand layers on the farm and shipped eggs. After the farm was sold he worked a short time at The Jones Motor Co. in Mt Airy and then a family member who co-owned Groceteria Inc. offered him a job in the grocery store and he spent 27 and a half years in the Produce Dept. under the Foodland and Food-Rite banners. After retirement he spent a lot of time in his garden, mowing grass for relatives, splitting firewood by hand and helping whoever might need it. The most joyous times were spent playing with his three grandchildren and watching them grow into adults. He was a member of West Falls Methodist Church and since 1972 a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and was a regular attender until the time of his passing. Friends may call the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W.
