Sandra Jean Hughes, age 80, of New Windsor, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born Nov. 26, 1937 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Harry Eugene and Mary Anna Bollinger Hughes. Sandy lived in Beltsville and Riverdale, MD where she was active in the Brownies, Girl Scouts and with piano lessons, before moving to New Windsor in 1950. She was a 1955 graduate of New Windsor High School. She was active in 4-H as a member of Sams Creek 4-H and as a co-leader of the Linwood Girls Club. Sandy was employed as manager of Triple S Fabrics on Main Street in Westminster, before purchasing the store and renaming it Sew Business. She also worked with the editors of Woman's Day magazine in Weekend Remodeling and Weekend Decorating creating window treatments in homes in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Long Island and on Maryland's eastern shore. In 1995 she graduated as an interior designer from the Maryland Institute of Art and through Sew Business created award winning window treatments achieving the Award of Excellence in the Window Fashions Magazine competition and Envision Design competition. Sandy was a former member of the Westminster Soroptimist Club and a current member of Westminster Kiwanis Club, where she received the Hixson Fellowship Award in 2012; Carroll County Historical Society and Genealogy Society; and Blair County, PA Genealogy Society. She was a proud member of the Terrapin Club, as well as the Fastbreakers and Rebounders, which supported the men's and ladies' basketball teams of the University of Maryland. She also enjoyed snow skiing in the New England area, western states and Austria. Surviving are her son, David E. Greene Sr. and wife, Kathy Morningstar Greene of New Windsor; daughter, Suzanne E. Greene Dell and husband Jeffery Dell of Littlestown, PA; grandchildren, David E. Greene Jr. and wife Cathi of Union Bridge, Stacey L. Greene Hudson and husband Jared and Jennifer L. Dear Suzanne and David,
I just found out about your mom's passing. She was quite a lady sharing her home for many years with the Bollinger reunions. You both should be very proud of her and her accomplishments.
All our love to you and to the grandchildren,

What a shock to read of Sandy's death this morning. Sandy and I were roommates at University of Maryland during 4-H club week. We have shared much of life's journey over the years. A talented person will be missed.

Suzy,
We are sad to learn of your mom's passing and the struggle she faced at the end. May she Rest In Peace and continue to shine her light on all of you. Upon reading her obituary, there is no doubt that she led a full life and that she made a difference in the lives of others. We will forever remember her kindness and the fun times we had down on the farm.
In the coming days, months, and years, look for Signs from Sandy. I know they will be there because she loved you all so much and she lived a life of gratefulness.
Thinking of you and sending a heartfelt hug!
