Victor DePaula Obituary

Victor Christopher DePaula, 82, of Westminster, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. Born on December 25, 1942, in Baltimore City, MD, he was the son of the late Vincent Ambrose DePaula and Nellie Cecilia McKenna DePaula. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Mary Catherine DePaula. Victor was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked as an air traffic controller for over 40 years. He was a member of the Westminster Elks Lodge, and a longtime and loyal member at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Westminster. During his children's elementary years, he would coach sports, including baseball, soccer, and basketball, and continued to ref high school sports as they got older. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Surviving him in addition to his wife are children: Amanda Rugguri and husband David, Christine Sedlar and husband Edward, Suzanne DePaula, Bridgett Corto and husband Frank, Vincent "Ricky" DePaula, grandchildren: Alexandra, Andrew, Paige, Chloe, Dominic, Sofia, Isabella, and Mia, and great-grandson: Gianni. Victor is also survived by his stepmother: Bettie DePaula, and stepsisters: Cynthia and Jenny Lynn. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 25, at 11 am, at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster, MD 21157. Interment is private. Arrangements are by the ECKHARDT FUNERAL CHAPEL, P.A., Manchester, MD. Online condolences may be offered at www.eckhardtfuneralchapel.com

Vic and I were great friends at work and play, being Baltimore friends. we got in mischief a lot, nothing serious, just to get applause and laughs. Sparky was his trainer.

So sorry to hear of the passing of a fellow Blue Devil umpire. I did not know Vic well but remember him as a great umpire. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family as well as his Blue Devil family.
