James Roark Obituary

James E. "Jim" Roark, 80, of Russell Springs, formerly of Adair County, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at 11:35 p.m. at his residence.

He was born in Elkhorn, West Virginia on March 29, 1936, to the late Trealy and Bonnie Taylor Roark besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James E. Roark Jr. on March 25, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Asberry Roark of Russell Springs; a son, Odes Roark of Russell Springs; a brother, Ray Roark of Cooper Ridge area in Adair County; a sister, Bertha Roark of Indianapolis, Indiana.; a grandchild, Amanda Marie Loop; a great-grandchild, Taylor Rena Loop; several nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, member of the Mount Calvary Church in Dunnville and had been a farmer.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with Brothers David Asberry and Billy Ray Hewitt officiating. Interment with full military honors followed in Cold Springs Cemetery in Casey County. Honors presented by the Russell County Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Charlie Asberry, David Asberry, Ronnie Asberry, Billy Ray Hewitt, Scotty Pyles and Odes Roark.
