June Rousey Obituary

June Lucille Dowell Rousey, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at Casey County Hospital. She was 92.
Born on Sept. 16, 1928, to the late Vulus R. and Ella Ramsey Dowell in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. Her family moved to Casey County when she was four years old where she would grow up, graduate from Liberty High School in 1946, marry Robert Rousey in 1947, and have her first of three children in 1948.
June was a devoted Christian, daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She managed Dowell Furniture Store for many years. She loved people and was always looking for ways to help when help was needed. She was a lifelong member of First Christian Church where she served as a deacon and elder, taught Sunday School, served on committees, led a Christian Women's Fellowship group, and visited the shut-ins. She worked several years with Relay for Life and has served on the board of the Casey County Alumni Association. She was a founding member of the Casey County Explorers hiking group where she made many new friends who enjoy hiking and wildflowers, just as much as she.
June was a picture of compassion, generosity, and love-all products of her faith.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of fifty-four years, Robert Rousey; and her brother, Dr. V.R. Dowell, Jr. (and Mildred).
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jeffries (and Danny) and Connie Cundiff (and Kerry), both of Liberty; and a son, Robert Barry Rousey (and Jennifer) of Liberty. Other survivors include grandchildren, Justin Jeffries (and Angela) and Adam Jeffries (and Jennifer) of Louisville, Darin Cundiff (and Rachyl) of Liberty, Sean Cundiff (and Lacey) of Lancaster, Robert Taylor Rousey (and Marie) of Liberty, and Jenna Gail Rousey Walker (and Jake) of Bowling Green; and great-grandchildren, Reed and Grayson Jeffries, Alex, Claire and Ellie Jeffries, Karis, Karmen, and Karter Cundiff, Anna Kerri and Amelia Cundiff, and Ella June Rousey.
Due to safety precautions and current restrictions the funeral service was held privately for immediate family only. Rev. Josh Snyder and Rev. Homer Hecht officiated the service. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Justin Jeffries, Adam Jeffries, Darin Cundiff, Sean Cundiff, Robert Taylor Rousey, and Jenna Gail Rousey Walker.
The funeral service was available for viewing to the public via Facebook live streaming on the First Christian Church of Liberty KY Facebook page at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020.
Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to First Christian Church Memorial Fund at PO Box 8, Liberty, KY 42539 OR the Casey County Alumni Association at PO Box 744, Liberty, KY 42539.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for all friends and family in the future on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at the Rousey homeplace in Butchertown.
Arrangements for Ms. June Lucille Dowell Rousey are entrusted to McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. An online guestbook is available at www.mckinneybrown.com.
