James Hollingsworth Obituary

James "Jim" Herman Hollingsworth, 84

Jim was born August 8, 1940 in Pomona, California to Harry and Gertrude (Arkell) Hollingsworth, the ninth of ten children. He accepted Christ as His Savior at a VBS when he was nine. He was born with a birth defect in his aortic valve. At 17 he had one of the first open heart surgeries performed in the country; soon after his surgery, he climbed Mount Whitney. He got a Bachelors degree in Social Sciences from Humboldt State College.

Jim married Mary Ann Kline December 17, 1966 in Arcata, California. They worked at a Boy Scout camp in southern California where David was born. Shortly after, Jim got a job at the Bunker Hill Mine in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho where Bruce, Jonathan, Jenny, and Charis were born. Through the loss of their son, Jonathan, they connected with a local church. They, along with some other like-minded folks, started Grace Bible Church. They continued to attend this church through the years. In 1976 Jim was ordained as a pastor, and subsequently obtained a Masters in Biblical Studies from Pensacola Christian College. He then pastored small churches in Pollock, Idaho; Kettle Falls and Moses Lake, Washington; Rincon Valley, California; and Reno, Nevada. Sandi, Samuel, Katie, and Becky were born during those years. Jim and Mary Ann then joined New Tribes Mission. They spent four years in Baborigame, Mexico sharing the gospel with the Tepehuan tribe. From there they returned to Coeur d'Alene in 1992.

Jim was a building contractor and was involved in local politics. Jim had the Constitution and Bible tracts in his pocket, always ready to ask people if they knew if they were going to heaven. The last decade of his life he spent writing his books: Climate Change, Cortez, The Ancient Culture of the Aztec Empire, A Republic if you can keep it, Abortion Compassion, and commentaries on Romans, Galatians, Ephesians (Philippians in editing and working on Colossians).

Jim was preceded in death by his sons, Jonathan and Samuel. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann; his children: David, Bruce, Jenny, Charis, Sandi, Katie, and Becky; his grandchildren: Allyson, Logan, Reagan, Jonathan, Elaine, Emma, Sophia, Samuel, Adam, Daniel, Amanda, Natasha, Kellan, Alexandra, and Jace; and his brothers: Dan, Chuck, and Bob.

Jim passed away August 21, 2024 at home surrounded by those who loved him. Jim loved God, loved the Word of God, loved his family, and loved this country. We are honored to call him Dad. We know he is in heaven, not because of the wonderful person he was, but because he had faith in Christ's finished work on the cross.

Jim's memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 3024 at Grace Bible Church, 152 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, dinner following.

May the Lord continue to build upon Uncle Jim's good work , boldness for truth, love for others, his concern for lost souls. Very proud of him. May the Lord bless his memory always.

Uncle Jim was a guardian of peoples souls, always a good shepherd. A few years ago I began to realize what a great man he was, the sacrifices he made all his life to help others. He was unafraid to share the gospel, to correct and admonish, to speak of conservative Christian politics. Personally, he witnessed to our family boldly. It was inspiring and comforting knowing someone cared about us, our lives and our values. Twice I met some Northern Idaho politicians who spoke fondly of my uncle Jim and told me his writings influenced many families in their area for good. Uncle Jim sent out emails several times a week with reminders and warnings, scripture, some with important links to political information. Through these I saw his wisdom and diligence, and especially those great conservative policies that can bring life, health, prosperity, tranquility and law and order to our society, to America. I´ve made a binder of many of his weekly emails. It´s sad to see the old guardians and shepherds of our communities passing on. I´m thankful to the Lord for Uncle Jim. May his memory be eternally blessed.
