Doris McDaniel Obituary

Doris J. McDaniel, age 93, of Cape Coral, FL passed away peacefully on 12/8/2025.

Doris was born in Handley, WV on 3/21/1932. She was fifth of twelve children, born to the late Cecil R. Davis and Ruby A. (Irvin) Davis.

She came to Elkton, MD in June of 1950 to accept employment with Elkton Trucking Company as a bookkeeper. She also worked for Baldwin Mfg Co. in Elk Mills, MD, Chrysler Corp. in Newark, DE, and lastly Morton-Thiokol Corp. as the Manager of Security and Telecommunications, retiring on January 3, 1989 with 32 years of service.

Doris attended the University of Delaware evening extension classes for Accounting. She was a graduate of the Department of Defense Institute in Cherry Hill, NJ and the National Security Institute in Arlington, VA.

She served on the Board of Directors of the Thiokol-Elkton Federal Credit Union, a past member of the Baltimore Bowling Association, Union Hospital Volunteers Program, and was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

After retirement she and her husband, Marlin D. McDaniel traveled to Florida for 10 years before his passing in 1999.

Survivors are her daughter, Terry L. McDaniel of Ringgold, GA, her son, Allen W. McDaniel of Cape Coral, FL, her grandson, Craig J. Cooling of Hixson, TN, her brother, Charles R. Davis of Hopkinsville, KY., and her great grandchildren, Madison, Landen, Aislyn, and Anistyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Marlin D. McDaniel, her grandson, Ryan A. Cooling, Cecil R. Davis and Ruby A. Davis. (her parents), her siblings, Cecil F. Davis, Helen L. Widdoes, Peggy A. Young, Franklin D. Davis, Suzanne Haysley, James C. Davis, Betty O'Dell-Barr, Lois Hager, Juanita Barnette, and William Davis.

Doris enjoyed time with her family, and many friends. She loved to cook, play cards, read books, and doing her crosswords. She loved her flowers.

She was a loving, generous, compassionate person who helped care for her dearly beloved friends in Charlestown, MD. - Eli M. Strimel, J. Cranford Henry, and Elizabeth M. Henry.

Doris will be cremated and Interment will be private.
