Elizabeth Ann Sentman died peacefully on March 25, 2026. She was 101 years old.
Known by her nickname, Lizzy, she was born in
Elkton, MD to John and Rose Alagia DiPaola on July 29, 1024.
She was educated in local schools and attended Goldey Beacom after high school. Her first date with the love of her life, Donald Sentman, was their senior class night party for graduation from Elkton High School. While Donald went to serve in WWII, Lizzy worked in the accounting office at Triumph Explosives Inc.
When he returned home, Lizzy and Donald married on Sept. 7, 1946. Together they raised their three children and built the family business, Sentman Distributors, which was passed down from Donald's family. They were able to educate their children, travel extensively and to enjoy many happy years in retirement until Donald's death in 2010.
Lizzy was an accomplished cook, seamstress and gardener. Her recipes were highly sought after and she took great pride in explaining their preparation. Lizzy could not wait for spring each year so that she could get out to plant her vegetable and flower gardens. Her lilies drew neighbors to her yard every summer. She loved to share bouquets with family and friends for special occasions or to brighten someone's day.
Lizzy moved to Paramount Senior Living in Newark in 2020. She made many new friends and enjoyed the company of her sister, Marietta Carter, who was also a resident. Together the sisters hosted family gatherings and amazed everyone with their longevity and stamina.
Lizzy is survived by her daughter, Ann Sentman, Annapolis, many devoted nieces, nephews and friends, daughter-in-law, Gail Sentman, grandchildren, Margaret Sentman Crouse, Robert Sentman, Maureen Sentman, Donald Neal Sentman, III, and three great grandchildren, cousins Rose Brown, Peter and Kathy Cridge, Judy Townsly who Lizzy chose to sing at her Mass and her beloved goddaughter, Sister Ann Elizabeth Eder, OSFS.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald, Sr., sons, Donald Neal, Jr., John Charles and his infant daughter, Ann Marie, siblings and spouses, Vincent(Alma) and Pascal(Jean) DiPaola, Marietta(Emmitt) Carter and Teresa(William) D'Azevedo, in-laws John Sentman, Jr., Alice Sentman, and David and Joanne Sentman.
Her family is grateful to the staff at Paramount Senior Living for years of care and devotion especially her physical therapists, Andy and Sean from Bayada Home Health Care who Lizzy credited with helping her to stay active and to the staff of AccentCare Hospice, Christiana Hospital, who provided care and comfort in her last days.
