Gifford Burton Biles

1929 - 2025

Gifford Burton Biles, 96, Delmar, MD, previously of Elkton, MD, passed away Friday, December 5, 2025. Born in North East, MD on November 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Gifford Dean and Eleanora Lilly Biles.

Mr. Biles proudly served in the United States Army, spending 1952-1954 in Korea, where he exemplified courage and commitment. After returning home, he continued a life of service as a devoted member of Elkton United Methodist Church, holding many positions throughout the years and contributing faithfully to the life of the congregation.

Gifford also served his community as a member of the North East Volunteer Fire Company. Outside of his volunteer work, he enjoyed time with friends in his local bowling league.

Professionally, Gifford worked as a warehouse foreman at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), serving the federal government with dedication and reliability throughout his career.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Virginia A. Kelly Biles; children, Denise Kelly Knowles (Gregory), Salisbury, MD, grandchildren Alicia Creamer (Matthew IV), Aldie, VA, and Derek B. Knowles, Salisbury, MD; two great-grandchildren, Matthew V and Luke as well as manty nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Mildred Raine and Thelma Grala.

Funeral service will be 2 PM, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton Street, Elkton, MD 21921, where visitation will begin at 1 PM. Interment with military honors will be in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Methodist Church, 211 Phillip Morris Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804, or to the North East Volunteer Fire Department, 210 S. Mauldin Ave, North East, MD 21901.
