Bryan William Overcast II, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 3, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri, he lived a long and meaningful life filled with quiet strength, hard work, and a deep love for nature, family, the state of Missouri, and his dogs, who were his loyal companions throughout his life.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Bryan served honorably in the Korean War, carrying the values of duty, resilience, and humility with him throughout his life.
He was married to Darlene Stockstill, and together they had a son, Ron Overcast. They were married on July 10, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri. Bryan's devotion to his family remained constant, and his legacy continues through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Some of the best memories with Bryan were made outdoors-fishing in catfish ponds and lakes, bird hunting with his loyal dogs, raising chickens and quail, and camping with family at Roaring River State Park. He found deep joy in the peacefulness of nature and the company of his dogs. He especially loved starting his mornings with coffee and cookies, and he always requested lemon cake for his birthdays, a sweet tradition that made him smile year after year.
Though he carried a tough exterior shaped by life's challenges, those who knew him best recognized the deep kindness and gentle heart beneath it.
His love showed through in quiet ways-in his loyalty, his presence, and the care he gave to his family, animals, and the world around him. He also had a sharp, understated sense of humor-quiet but clever-and those close to him often found themselves laughing at his perfectly timed one-liners or dry remarks delivered with a straight face.
Bryan worked faithfully for 35 years at Montgomery Ward before retiring. He had an immense work ethic and took great pride in everything he did-from his professional responsibilities to the meticulous care he gave to his home, tools, and every possession he owned. Everything he touched reflected his sense of pride, discipline, and responsibility. He was a man of few words but immense character-steadfast, reliable, and deeply respected.
He is survived by his son Ron Overcast, daughter-in-law Vickie Overcast, and grandchildren Erin Overcast, Stacey Overcast, Bryan Overcast III, and Bryce Overcast.
He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Siaden and Colgan Marvel, who will grow up hearing stories of his strength, warmth, and love for the simple things in life.
Bryan is preceded in death by his beloved wife Darlene Overcast, father Bryan Overcast Sr., mother Gladys Hamilton, grandfather Joe Hamilton, daughter Marianne Vance, son Jerry Overcast, and brother Bud Overcast. He will be joyfully reunited with them and other loved ones who went before him.
A celebration of Bryan's life will be determined at a later date. Family and friends will be invited to gather and honor a man whose life was rich in love, rooted in tradition, and filled with appreciation for the land and people he held dear.
