Beth Little Obituary

Beth Jolene Little, 63 years old, of Brandon, IA, passed away from breast cancer on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Brandon United Methodist Church in Brandon. Private family burial will be at a later date at the Brandon Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 21st at White Funeral Home in Independence, IA. Visitation will continue for an hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Over the course of her cancer treatments, Beth participated in multiple clinical trials at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and following her funeral services, she will be taken to the University of Iowa Medical School where she has deeded her body in hopes that a cure for triple negative breast cancer can be found.

Beth was born on April 22, 1961, at the Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, IA, to Ivan J. and Marlene J. (Satterlee) Steinbeck. She attended school in Independence and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979. She attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA, and graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. She married Michael Laurance Little on August 10, 1985, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence.

Beth worked for People's Memorial Hospital (now the Buchanan County Health Center) from May 1983 to February 1986. She worked for Den Hartog and Hogan, CPAs (now Hogan-Hansen CPAs) from February 1986 to May 1991. She worked for the City of Marion, IA, from May 1991 through her retirement in March 2022. Beth was blessed to work at the city with wonderful, talented, and devoted mayors, council members, and employees, whom she considered her work family.

Beth loved spending time working in her yard, biking, cross stitching, and playing the piano. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. The tradition of Friday night dinners that started when the twins were just babies, was one of her favorites and has continued with her children, grandchildren, and sister. Beth was a lifetime member of the Brandon United Methodist Church in Brandon and loved attending church with her church family.

Beth is survived by her husband, Mike of Brandon; her twin daughters, Courtney (Matthew) Templeton of Cedar Rapids, IA, Candace (James) Hocken of Independence; her grandchildren, Hudson, Britton, and Sutton Templeton, all of Cedar Rapids, Huxley and Hollis Hocken of Independence; her brother, David (Terrace) Steinbeck of Eagle, ID; her sister, Amy Steinbeck of Cedar Rapids; her brother-in-law, Pat (Meg) Sloan of Urbandale, IA; as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan & Marlene Steinbeck; her grandparents, Howard & June Satterlee, and James & Ruth Steinbeck; her in-laws, Glenn "Sid" & Esther Little; her brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" & Carol Little; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra & Ron Gray, her aunt and uncle, Norma & Ronald "Dick" Nielsen; and her cousin, Robyn Satterlee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brandon United Methodist Church, Brandon Area Community Club, Brandon Fire Department, Marion Fire Department, Mercy Hospital Foundation – Thrive Program, 701 10th Street SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, or a charity of the donor's choice.
