Jack Mitchell Obituary

Jack Mitchell, 79, of Evansville, Indiana passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021 after a long and tiresome battle with health issues.

The family will be having a private time of remembrance.

Jack is survived by his three children, Jackie (Phil) Lambert & Jamie Appleby of Monticello, Iowa and Steve Mitchell of Dallas, Texas; a brother Robert (Alice) Mitchell of Arizona; his grandchildren, Kirsten (Keith) Luebrecht, Alan (Paige) Lambert, Kody Goettsch, Katie Goettsch (Dallas Lumpa), Jack and William Mitchell and his great grandchildren Lennon and Lowen Lumpa.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Mitchell and his wife, Phyllis Mitchell.

Jack was born on December 21, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana and his family moved to Vinton, Iowa shortly after.

Jack spent his whole childhood in Vinton and enjoyed sports and running the Dairy Treat Ice Cream Parlor his junior and senior years. Jack graduated from Washington High School in 1960.

From 1963 to 1967 Jack was enlisted the Iowa National Guard.

In 1964 he married Judy Hogan and was gifted three children.

He owned and operated Lasswell Studio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for twelve years.

In 1979 Jack relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where he met the love of his life, Phyllis.

They owned and operated Mitchell of Paradise Valley Photography until 1999. Photography was a major passion for them and they became some of the best in the business.

During his time in Arizona, Jack took up the hobby of running. He prided himself on completing three marathons and dozens of 10K's in his forties.

He had the only green lawn in the Arizona desert and carried his love for lawn care over to each home he owned.

After retirement, Jack and Phyllis ventured to Iowa enjoying the opportunity to watch their grandchildren grow up.

He loved to watch the grandkids play ball always giving his unsolicited advice.

In 2011, Jack relocated to Evansville, Indiana where he completed his life journey sharing time with his friend and companion Patty Brenton.

There will be no public services.
