Selma Kaiser Obituary

It has pleased the Lord to receive Selma Marie Kaiser, 94, into her heavenly home. She passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Vinton, Iowa.

Visitation will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton, Iowa on Friday October 18, 2024 from 3-7 pm.

The funeral service will be at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Garrison, Iowa on October 19, 2024, at 10:30 AM with Pastor Adam Baumann officiating. Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery.

Selma was born November 29, 1929, in LaPorte City, Iowa to Howard and Anna (Froehlich) Staab. She was baptized, confirmed, and married as a life long member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She graduated from the Newhall, Iowa High School in 1947. On March 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Glenn Kaiser at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, Iowa. Living on the farm for 47 years, she worked beside her husband while raising the children. On sunny warm days, she enjoyed being outdoors tending to her garden, flowers, and yard work. Wherever she was, home or traveling, she would marvel at the beauty of God's creation. Selma was a wonderful cook and baker, with lemon and peach pies a requested favorite of many. She joyfully taught Sunday School and was a member of the Garrison St Mark Lutheran Church Tabitha. She also was a Big Grove Builders 4-H leader, a 4-H Council Board member, and served on the women's Benton County Pork Board as Glenn and she raised many hogs on their farm.

Selma is survived by her five children, David (Jane) Kaiser of Dysart; Michelle (BJ) Wayson of Mount Auburn; Timothy (Tammy) Kaiser of Missouri; Tami (Carey) Roth of Florida; and Jon (Michelle) Kaiser of Garrison; eleven grandchildren – Katie, Mary, Carrie, Mark, Blake, Michael, Scott, Shannon, Tara, Elijah and Noah; sixteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Anna Staab; husband Glenn in 2010; brothers, Kenneth, Berdell (Joyce) Staab; sister Norma (Keith) Weekly and half sister Onalee; in laws Walt and Deane Turner; Louis and Joanne Kaiser; Maxine Lockard; Veryl and Eleanor Kaiser and Wayne Merchant.

We would like to thank Pastor Baumann, Pastor Preus and Pastor Stephenson for all their comforting visits. Thank you to the Vinton Lutheran Living Communities for the compassionate and loving care given to our mother over the past six years. Thank you to Dean and Nancy Good for their friendship and many car rides given to our mother.

Memorials received will be forwarded to St Mark Lutheran Church in Garrison and the Garrison Cemetery.

Selma and I were very good friends many years ago. Classmates in Mt. Auburn and Vinton. Lost touch when we moved to Colorado in1972. Remembered as a being very close.
