Shirley Ann Henson Johnson, 79, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Laurels of Charlottesville.
She was born in Louisa, Virginia on September 25, 1936 and was the daughter of the late William Henson and Lottie Henson McCowin. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Mike; and her eldest son, Tony.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Bennett Johnson, who stood by her every day of their marriage, in sickness and in health; her son, Greg; her daughters, Charlotte Robinson, and Sharon "Roc" Jones and husband, Melvin; her brothers, William Henson and wife, Cynthia, Lawrence Henson and wife, Priscilla, and Darnell Henson and wife, Leslie; her sisters, Jesteane Ragland and husband, Owen, Barbara Jordan and Joyce Christmas and husband, Arthur; six grandsons, Jermaine, Gregory, Maurice, Kevin, Brandon and Melvin 'Miko'; two granddaughters, Brittany and Dana, who watched over her tenderly until the time her grandma was called; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was very close to her two cousins, Cora "Boots" Scott and Marie Christmas; and her good friend, Mrs. Evelyn Arnette.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who loved her family with a passion. We will miss her so very much.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery.
