State College, Pennsylvania - Altha Virginia Nestor, age 92, of State College passed away at Wynwood State College on November 25, 2025. She was born in Berkeley Springs WV on March 31, 1933 to the late Irvin and Agnes (Rankin) Swaim and graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1951.
She married Alfred Nestor who predeceased her, and raised Sharon (Glenn, deceased) Landau of Shamokin; Nancy (Daryl) Doty of Spring Mills; Joseph Nestor of Avis; and Janet Bosco of Bellefonte. She had seven grandchildren: Steve (Melissa) Landau of Sunbury; Julie Landau of Shamokin; Michael Doty of Bellefonte; Caitlin (Geoff) Brown of Indianapolis IN; Brian Nestor of Lamar; Sara Nestor of Clearfield; and Kristi Griffin of Bellefonte. She had eight great-grandchildren: Evangeline, Morgan, and Rowan Landau; Lily Brown; Everleigh Harris; and Lincoln, Makinli, and Ellington Griffin. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by one sister, Patricia Kesecker of Berkeley Springs WV. Three brothers, Kenneth, Stanley, and James predeceased her.
She spent her early years as a Homemaker; a Caregiver for a neighbor; a Riverside Grocery Stores employee; and later worked 19 years at McLanahan's Drug Stores in State College. She attended State College Alliance Church. Altha loved gardening and flowers.
She was known as a 'plant whisperer' because of her ability to make them thrive, and she was often commended for her house's beautifully-kept exterior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital.
Funeral service will be at Duckwall Church in Berkeley Springs WV on December 1st at 11 AM, with a viewing, 10-11 AM. Interment will follow. Officiant will be Rev Matthew Swope.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service Inc., Bellefonte and Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs WV. A local celebration of life service is planned for a later date. Online condolences may be made to the family at wetzlerfuneralhome.com

We first met at Boalsburg and we discovered her maiden name was the same as my name. Swaim is somewhat of an unusual name in popularity. We all bonded immediately and we were made to feel welcomed into their family. Their family is incredible!
Altha was a model for so much in her character and has fortunately been passed onto her children.
Altha will be missed but all that you would want in an individual is still present in her children. Thanks to the family for sharing Altha with us.
