Bruce Wescott Smith, Jr.

Petersburg, Pennsylvania - Bruce Wescott Smith, Jr. of Petersburg, PA, passed away in his home on October 18th, 2025.

He graduated from Barrington High School, Barrington RI in 1967, he went on to receive a degree in Chemical Engineering from Roger William University in Bristol Rhode Island in 1971.

He worked for a Ford Motor dealership in Roanoke, VA, then later worked in the uranium mines in Toas, NM. Later in his career came to work at Chemcut Corporation; State College, PA. as a Chemical Engineer. He created the black oxide process for landline phone, and traveled to China and South Korea to present his findings.

After leaving his engineering career, he started his own furniture business where he resided in Petersburg, PA (B.W. Smith Furniture). He made many beautiful, hand-crafted pieces of furniture for customers in State College, Huntingdon, and as far as Pittsburgh, PA.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Bruce W. Smith, Sr. (father), Dale Smith Reed (mother) of Bristol, RI and Craig Smith (brother) of Providence, RI.

He is survived by his son Bruce W. Smith, III of New Kensingto?, PA, Melanie Massaro (sister) Milton, NH, Kimberly Brown, (Jim) (sister) of Brunswick, ME, and Susan Soltis (former spouse) of New Kensington, PA. And Several nieces and nephews.

Services for Bruce W. Smith Jr. to be announced in a future edition of the paper.
