Bellefonte, Pennsylvania - David G. Smoyer, Sr. 81, formerly of rural Julian passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Centre Care. David was born on April 21, 1941 in Bellefonte, a son of the late Fount and Pearl King Smoyer. On January 8, 1960 he married the former Delores J. Hall, who preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2017. He is survived by his children, Eileen (Jerry) Young of Julian, Dawn (Tim) Knepp of Middleburg, Michael (Deb) Smoyer of Julian, David (Maria) Smoyer, Jr. of Lancaster, and Nancy (Brian) Witmer of State College; 5 grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Dixon, Kyle Dixon, Brandon Witmer, Shane Witmer and Chase Witmer. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Arthur Smoyer, May Smoyer, William Smoyer, Sterling Smoyer and Elwood Smoyer.
Before his retirement, he was a welder for the Chemcut Corporation and the proud owner of Dave's Welding Shop. He was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed singing old-time gospel hymns. He had a passion for welding, participating in craft shows and creating rod iron works. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his jovial personality, his ability to tell a good joke and story which then in turn brought much joy and laughter to many.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
