Edward Heckman Obituary

Edward Clifford Heckman

March 27, 1949 - October 16, 2025

Hublersburg, Pennsylvania - Edward (Ed) Clifford Heckman, 76, of Hublersburg, Pennsylvania, was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on October 16, 2025, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on March 27, 1949, in Lock Haven to the late Clifford Curtin Heckman and Jennie M. (Lamey) Heckman.

After completing his mechanic training, Ed worked on farm and heavy equipment for many years at Hipple's in Bellefonte. He then opened his own shop in Hublersburg, Heckman's Off Road Repair, which he operated for over 20 years. Known for his skill, honesty, and dedication, he served local farmers, small businesses, and families with a heart to help others. Ed's shop sat on the family property, allowing his children to work alongside him and share his passion for mechanics, hard work, and the importance of quality family time.

He later worked at Centre Concrete in State College, continuing to serve with his mechanic expertise until retirement.

In 1967, Ed proudly joined the Walker Township Fire Company 16 as a lifetime member, moving up to Chief status from 1970-1971.

In 1980, Ed met his wife, Julie Ann (Rhinehart) Heckman, at Magic River Skateland in Lock Haven. They were married in June 1982 at the United Methodist Church in Woolrich. Their shared love for skating turned into a lifelong partnership filled with faith, laughter, and family. They often spent Sundays after church at a roller rink with their children.

Ed enjoyed time at the Hemlock hunting camp with family, camping trips, fishing, grilling chicken, playing cards and making jokes. In retirement, he loved tinkering with small projects, baking his famous "Pappy buns" for his grandchildren, and making breakfast for his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; son Brian (Emily) Heckman, 40; daughter Vanessa (Michael) Workoff (Heckman), 37; and three grandchildren, Alaina and Caleb Heckman, and Abigail Workoff. He is also survived by his brother William (Sue) Heckman and sister Tressa (Jon) Barnhart, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerry Heckman.

Ed will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose faith, love, and work ethic leave a lasting legacy.

Funeral services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
