Gilbert Keith Glenn May 8, 1939 January 17, 2019 Gilbert Keith Glenn, 79, of Howard passed away on Thursday Jan. 17, 2019. He was born in Carlisle, the first child of the late Blanche and Walter Glenn. He was a 1957 graduate of Chief Logan High School, and a 1961 graduate of Lycoming College, with majors in English and journalism, and attended post-graduate courses at Penn State. In the US Army from 1961-64, he attended Army Language School, Monterey, Calif. before serving on Okinawa as a Chinese linguist. He taught English at Bald Eagle High School for 35 years, where he coached various athletic teams and was public address announcer at football games. He enjoyed league bowling and watching sports events. He traveled throughout the United States and Canada and made an annual trip to Florida for the Pirates' Spring-training games. Ask him a question about anything, and it's likely he knew the answer and could give you extensive background, as well. Sports trivia was a special interest, but he watched "Jeopardy" daily and gave the correct responses in all categories before the contestants. Voracious reader of all types of books and periodicals, with a legendary memory, he also had an astonishing ability to make instantaneous connections to solve problems and puzzles, no matter how obtuse. He is survived by a sister, Leona Foore, of State College; a brother, Jerry Glenn, of State College and New Zealand; a nephew, Brady Foore; three nieces, Rebecca Glenn, Rachel Glenn Rowlands, Alison Glenn Oliver; a great aunt, Mary Day; longtime friend, Martha Boyer Lung; and multiple cousins.
