Dr. Harvey William Jorgenson

Dr. Harvey William Jorgenson October 23, 1937 - May 17, 2008 Dr. Harvey William Jorgenson, 70, of Sparta, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his home. Born in Suffern, New York, on October 23, 1937, Dr. Jorgenson was a long time resident of Sussex County. He attended the one-room school house, Clinton Grammar School, on Perona Road and Newton High School. Dr. Jorgenson received his B.S. from Lehigh University and his Masters and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University in 1970. Formerly employed as the Vice President of Jorgenson, Inc., an engineering and construction firm in Newton, he was also an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Newark College of Engineering. Dr. Jorgenson was the owner of Jorgenson Associates, an engineering consulting firm. A member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, other memberships included Chi Epsilon and Sigma Xi. He was also the former President of Sparta Rotary and was active in the Tri-State Actors Theater. His passions in life included classical music, opera, the theater, travel and tennis. He is survived by his sweetheart; Christel Odom, of Newton; by his only child, Reed William Jorgenson, of O'Fallon, Illinois; his sisters, Norma Jorgenson Cappola of Fredon and Claire Sutton Hunt and her husband, Bob, of Milford, Pa.; his stepsister, Ashleigh Yurkiw, of Branchville; three granddaughters, Amanda Jorgenson Murray and her husband, Andrew, of Rockport, Massachusetts, Alyssa Jorgenson and Andrea Jorgenson, both of O'Fallon; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Murray, of O'Fallon. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Barbara Grohann of State College; his cousin, Kim Seigler and her son, Matt, of East Douglas, Massachusetts, Larry Sutton and his wife, Karen, of Woodbridge, Va., and Elizabeth Daetz and her husband, George, of Cary, N.C. He is preceded in death by his father; Harvey William Jorgenson, Sr., and his mother, Gladys Jorgenson Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 22, 2008, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
