Jeanne Smith Obituary

Jeanne Walter Smith October 30, 1918 May 25, 2016 Jeanne Walter Smith, of Boalsburg, formerly of West Chester, died on May 25, 2016, at The Pines of Juniper Village in State College. Born October 30, 1918, to Thomas Edgar Walter and Lela S. Walter, of West Chester, she married Harry T. Smith (deceased), of West Chester, on June 20, 1944. Surviving are her two children, Bonnie Smith Marshall (Peter), of Boalsburg, and Terry C. Smith, of West Chester; five grandchildren, Paul R. McCormick (Jessica), State College, Sara A. McCormick, Philadelphia, John T. McCormick (Janelle), Pittsburgh, Monica J. Mardel (Adam), Baton Rouge, La. and Brittany R. Smith, West Chester; and one great grandchild, Amy Renee McCormick, State College. She was a graduate of West Chester High School and West Chester University. Born and raised in Chester County, she taught second grade in the West Chester Area School District for over 30 years. Jeanne retired to the State College area in 1987, with her husband and became an active volunteer with Mount Nittany Medical Center and the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Her service to others is a hallmark of her life. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchild and remained active in their lives until her death. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family and interment will be in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, Chester County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2408A Park Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
