Joel, today, like many days, I am thinking about you.

As I have said many times now... Joel, my oldest "car friend" I have known you since I was 14 and just getting into cars as a hobby. Now at the age of 24 I can confidently say that if it wasn't for meeting you I would not be where I am today in the automotive field of which I made a career and a passion. Words can not describe the impact you had on people involved in your life. No one ever spoke bad about you and always complimented you on your systematic and unique approach to everything you did. I can only hope to be as organized and analytical as you some day. You will continue to inspire me, every day and my promise to you along with many others is to take care of your family as if they were related by blood and to never allow your name to be tarnished. Godspeed, friend.

My deepest sympathy to the Reed family. I just learned about his passing today as I am currently out of the Penn State loop. I worked with Joel in Global Programs for years. He was always such a delight to be around. He lit up the room when he walked in...just a great guy.

I worked briefly with Joel over the past 6months and every interaction was a positive one. He was a very kind, light-hearted individual who always treated me with respect and dignity. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing, but I know that men like Joel go to a better place than what they leave behind. I'm sincerely sorry for your loss, he was a great guy.

Words can't express who Joel was. He was the guy who you always wanted to be with you. If that was to go out at night or just relax at home with friends, you'd always call Joel first. We can say this and we only knew him for a short time. He will be missed dearly. We send our deepest prayers to his family as the love he had for them could never be messured. God Bless you and we are here for you.

Oh my word, I am so sorry about this sudden and unexpected loss and I can't imagine how difficult it must be for his beloved family.
I enjoyed working with Joel a lot. He was always cheerful and easygoing. He was the guy I would call when my computer wasn't working (or, more often than not, when I wasn't doing something right). That his technical skills were superb is one thing, but beyond that, he had a calm, reassuring, confident way about him that actually made those phone calls a pleasure, not an agony! He was helpful and patient, an all-around good guy. He will be greatly missed.

Working with Joel was truly a pleasure and a delight. He was always kind, professional, friendly with a constant genuine smile. What a shock. While he lived only for a short time, he left an indelible mark of kindness in the hearts of those of us, who were fortunate to know him. I pray God's strength for his family.

Many years ago, Brenda and I were just typical online friends. Our friendship deepened, and developed through the years into something very special. Brenda and I share our family's trials and tribulations with each other. We laugh and cry with each other, as only best friends can. Today, I cry. Through these precious e-mail conversations, I was privileged to be witness to Brenda's family as she was to mine. I remember as Joel and Deanne became husband and wife. I thought "My! what a beautiful couple!" Through Brenda, I was able to share the happiness as Joel and Deanne built their new home and welcomed their babies, Ethan and Holden, into this world. As Brenda and I shared our stories with each other, I was very aware that Deanne's husband was someone extra special. From her stories, I knew Joel was a wonderful man, husband, and father, and he always went that extra mile to make sure his family was happy and secure.. I so wish I could have known Joel personally.I would have like to have been able to shake his hand and talk a bit.The best I can do now, is in prayer, I will say to him, "Well done, Joel. You did good on this earth. You are loved beyond belief. You are missed by everyone you know... and even some people you probably never knew existed, (like me.)"

Deanne,
My heart still breaks and my mind still can't understand. I'm still deeply saddened. I only met Joel briefly twice before but he was such a nice person. Working with you I could tell the love you had for each other and for your boys just by your words. I will continue to say many prayers for you, Ethan and Holden. Stay strong. I'm here if you need anything at all. Sending you and your families love.

I'm still at a loss for words as nothing I say could even begin to reflect my deepest sympathies for your loss. Joel was one of my closest friends and I'll never forget the many good times and laughs we've had over the past 17 years. Joel would have done anything for his friends and his family. The world is truly a much worse off place without him. I am so sorry for your loss and my thoughts will forever be with you and Ethan and Holden. Deanne, if you ever need anything, night or day, you know how to get a hold of me. We love you!

To the Reed family - I am so sorry for your heartbreaking loss of such a wonderful man. I know he truly loved his family and was especially proud when he became a daddy.

I worked with Joel in the Student Aid Office at Penn State and always enjoyed our talks. He was a quiet, gentle soul who was so dedicated to his job and helping all of us when we needed him. It was nothing for him stop what he was working on to help us with our computer issues with such patience and respect. I was sad when he left our office for his new job.

Rest in peace, Joel - you've earned your wings!
