Martha Bartley Obituary

Martha E. Bartley March 4, 1928 - November 7, 2008 Martha E. Bartley, 80, of Bellefonte, formerly of Jacksonville, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Centre Crest Nursing Home. Mom is at peace and is rejoicing with the angels. She was a wonderful mom, sister and friend to all that knew her. Born March 4, 1928, in Walker Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Annabell Fogleman Sproul. On Aug. 31, 1952, she married Roy J. Bartley, Sr., who survives and is a resident of Centre Crest. Martha was a homemaker. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, in Jacksonville, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and Assistant Superintendant. She also helped with church suppers. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Marion Grange, where she was past treasurer, and of The Marion Grange. She enjoyed camping and working at the Grange Fair. Surviving are one daughter, Beverly J. Hazzard and husband, John W., of Snydertown; one son, Roy J. Jr. and wife, Judy, of Jacksonville; and three sisters, Sara Zerby, of Lock Haven, Ida Breon, of Pleasant Gap, Caroline Himmelwright, of Mill Hall; two step-granddaughters; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy E.; a son, William T.; a sister, Verna Kerstetter; and four brothers, Mahlon, Samuel, Harvey Sr., and William Sproul. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 135 W. Main St., Howard. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Nancy Kuhns and Paula Curtis-Burn officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Walker Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ, c/o Patsey Aley, Treasurer, 131 Grove Lane, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
