State College, Pennsylvania - Robert Bain Donaldson Jr., age 86 of Boalsburg passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024. Born on August 7, 1937 in Bellefonte, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Donaldson, Sr. and Lillian Donaldson. On June 11, 1960 he married the love of his life, the late Janet R. Robert grew up in College Heights, State College and graduated from State High in 1955, lettering in soccer. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He spent numerous hours devoting himself to projects for these organizations which he loved.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his beloved cocker spaniel companions. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, photography, and gardening. He was able to share his love for fishing with his three grandchildren. He and Janet loved to travel to Colorado and Wyoming to visit his sister. He also enjoyed trips to Canada in the summer to fish and watching Penn State football.

On this anniversary of Bob's passing I welcome an opportunity to once again sing Bob's praises as someone who worked closely with Bob over the years in County Government. Bob was someone whose advice was always well thought out and could bring to the forefront the history of every decision as someone who was there through much of the history. He was a true public servant in his role as Planning Director for the County and in his role with other planners in all municipalities throughout Centre County. Think of him often and will always remember what an asset he was to this great County.

Bob was a great friend, who I knew for nearly fifty at our White Deer Club. May he catch the big ones in the hereafter!

Sending my sincere condolences to Bob's family. I began my journey in County Government 9 years after Bob started there and from day one I so valued Bob's guidance and knowledge on all matters. Sharing Bob's value system as fellow members of St. Paul's Methodist Church, I always knew Bob's advice would be well thought out and could be followed without uncertainty. Beginning in the administration side and after that as an elected official for 12 years I saw how Boards of Commissioners before me had counted on Bob's guidance and I was proud and happy that I was able to do the same. After leaving County Government I was always so happy that I was still able to greet Bob & Jan after church on Sunday with a big warm smile and lots of love for each other. Thanks Bob for all you have done for this County over the years in your many valued roles. Gone but never forgotten.

I sat along side of Bob for many years as members of the Centre County Historical Society´s Board of Directors. We also spent time together hiking in Spring Creek Canyon. He was a wealth of knowledge and made tremendous contributions to the community on so many levels. I will miss him.

It was my good fortune to interact with Bob over many years in his capacity as Centre County planning director. He was a stalwart guardian of the interests of Centre County residents, and a real gentleman as well. His activities in the conservation community helped preserve the character of the county. I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Donaldson when I was employed by local government for 12 years. He was always very kind, patient, and professional. I knew I could always go to him with my questions and he would take the time to listen. It was a pleasure to have known him.
