Goldsboro, North Carolina - Robert Glenn "Rob" Hampton, 60, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his home in Goldsboro. Born in Avis, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1960 to Florence Jean Helsel Hampton of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and the late Robert L. Hampton.
Rob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a A-10, T-38, and F-15E fighter pilot. He retired after 22 years having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his Air Force career, Rob worked as a A320/321 Captain with Jet Blue Airways for the last 17 years. Rob was a longtime member of the Mount Olive Airport community. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and member of Nashua Masonic Lodge.
Rob was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and also attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Goldsboro and St. Anne's Catholic Church in Hampstead, New Hampshire.
A service to celebrate Rob's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Wellman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Seymour Funeral Home. Attendees are asked to wear a facial covering and practice social distancing measures.
In addition to his mother, Rob is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terry Hampton; children and their spouses, Henry and Sacha Hampton of Moxee, WA, Heath and Tavia Hampton of Bradenton, FL, Amanda and Dr. Stephen Balevic of Hillsborough, NC, and Katie Hampton and Christopher Bonner of Ayer, MA; grandchildren, Alexander Hampton, Isabelle Hampton, Hailey Quantrille, Chase Dorias, Taylor Hampton, Cody Weaver, David Robert Balevic, and Lillian Balevic; great-grandchildren, Emerie Quantrille and Karley Dorias; sister and brother-in-law, Amy Lynn and Kent Lausbscher; two nieces, Ali and Lauren; and several other extended family members.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Bob. I knew him from his days at Daniel Webster College through my brother Steve. He was a fine gentleman. My prayers go out to the entire Hampton family. I remembered him during my Masses this weekend.

Oh my goodness; so very sad to hear this news and my heart goes out to Terry and the rest of the Hampton family. I am one of the several pilots that commutes out of Raleigh and would share many a flights with Rob going to/from work (to include those where Terry was able to join him). You both shall be in my prayers and I hope God brings you comfort and peace in this difficult time.

Rob was one of the first captains that I flew with when I joined JetBlue. He understood what it meant to be new to the airline and new to the Airbus. He was the quiet professional who exuded confidence and competence. He answered my questions in a straight forward manner and never belittled me for not knowing something. He always talked enthusiastically about flying F15’s and A10’s. He was a great pilot and a good guy. I already miss him.

Rob will be missed greatly at JetBlue. He helped me transition from the US Air Force to JetBlue. We met over a year ago when we were commuting to and from RDU to fly for JetBlue. Rob’s enthusiasm, support, and gentle guidance have been indispensable in my growth here at JetBlue. I am sad we never flew a trip together and I was looking forward to that opportunity. To the Hampton family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am certain Rob’s wonderful legacy will live on in you and everyone he touched on this earth.
