Stephen Hardy Obituary

Dr. Stephen James Hardy December 24, 1957 February 5, 2018 Dr. Stephen James Hardy (retired), 60, formerly of Newton Hamilton, Erie, Waterford, State College and, most recently, Orbisonia, died in his sleep Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2018, at AristaCare at Woodland Park after battling on-going illnesses related to diabetes. Born Dec. 24, 1957, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, he was the son of Donna (Whitsel) Hardy, of State College and the late Ronald J Hardy. Dr. Hardy is survived by three children, Stephanie (Hardy) Joslin, of Wexford and Melissa and Kelli Hardy, of Girard; a sister, Annette Hampton and husband, Michael, of Pennsylvania Furnace; and his nephews, James and David Hampton. He was a 1975 graduate of Mount Union Area High School, a 1979 pre-med graduate of Juniata College and a 1983 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Hardy did his residency at the Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie. For a number of years, he worked as an emergency room physician at the same location before leaving to open private practices in Waterford and later Meadville. Prior to retiring due to health reasons, Dr. Hardy had most recently worked for the Veterans Administration in the northwest Pennsylvania area. He had a lifelong affinity with all things baseball. From playing in Little League and Teener League as a young man, to playing for the Trojans of Mount Union in high school, the Eagles during his time at Juniata College, and the numerous pick-up leagues (baseball and slow pitch) in the Huntingdon County, Mifflin County and the greater Erie area. He was a loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Stephen was also an accomplished guitar player and an avid golfer and bowler. At the family's request, there will be no services. Interment will be made in the Morningside Cemetery, DuBois. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Memorial contributions in memory of Dr. Hardy may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215; the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dear Teresa and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Hardy. He treated me and my girls when he practiced in Erie. Stephen, and his staff, made doctor visits a bit less painful.
God Bless.
