Timothy Thornton Obituary

Wallingford, Pennsylvania - Timothy Thornton, 48, died suddenly on December 19 while mountain biking with friends. He is survived by his wife Yuni, son Alexander (14) & daughter Vivienne (11); father John Martin Thornton, mother Patricia Thornton & stepfather Douglas Meyer, all of State College; sister Jessica Reilly of Medfield, MA & by relatives & friends in the US, South Korea & around the world. A 1991 alum of SCAHS, he graduated from the PSU School of Hospitality Management. After working in the industry for several years, he moved to Seoul, South Korea to teach English. He was met at the airport by his supervisor & future love of his life, Yuni Chung. They married in 2003. In 2008 he earned his MBA in Finance at Temple University & began his tenure at Vanguard. At the time of his death, he held the position of Institutional Strategy Pricing Manager. Tim loved to travel, cook & play with his family, coach Alex & his team at Liberty Youth Cycling, support Vivi's love of ice skating & always took on any adventures that his family wanted to try. Relatives & friends are invited to his memorial service on Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Danjolell-Barone Memorial Home, 908 S. Providence Rd. Wallingford, PA. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Alex & Vivi's future education through www.ugift529.com: W6J-K1E (Alex) and W2X-963 (Vivi)

I had the great fortune to have Tim as a manager at Vanguard. He truly made a lasting impact on my life and I will greatly miss him. He always had a smile on his face for you. His optimism, positivity, enthusiasm, and encouragement were gifts he shared with all. I am so saddened by his passing. His devotion to his family was always evident and I am so sorry for your loss. I met Tim when I first started at Vanguard nearly 10 years ago. He was welcoming and witty - one of my first colleague-friends at Vanguard. I was fortunate to again work with him a few years later and he was not only a great person but a fantastic colleague. He was always kind and always quick to put a smile on my face. Unfortunately I can't attend the service tomorrow as my daughter is sick with COVID but I will be thinking of Yuni, the kids and the rest of the family and friends during this very sad time.

I am truly heartbroken over the loss of Tim. He had an amazing ability to make people laugh even during the most stressful of circumstances. (In fact, I've thought quite a bit about some of our more recent chats and it immediately brings a smile to my face.) He was a great person who had a major impact on the lives of many people. Tim was one of my favorite people to work with at Vanguard. Nothing made me happier than sharing a laugh with him in a meeting, or catching up with him in the break room. He always had a kind word and a smile, which eased the tension and stress of the meetings we were in, and I will miss him greatly. I will keep your entire family in my prayers.

Tim and I been camping at Cape Henlopen, DE together with a big group of dads and kids many times over the years. Those were some good times. He will be missed. My sympathies go out to his family.

I worked with Tim years and years ago at the Auto Port in State College, I knew then he would go on to do great things. I can only imagine what a wonderful husband and great father Tim was. I had the extreme pleasure of working with Tim. He was a fantastic coworker and supervisor, and an even better person. Tim was genuine and always said what he felt. I learned a great amount from Tim in the office. However, I learned even more from him about how to be a better person. We will miss Tim tremendously. As a cousin, I would see Tim throughout the years from when he was young, and into the time when he was a husband and father. What has stayed with me from those interactions was the love and happiness he expressed. He will be deeply missed.
