Virginia Hobar Obituary

Virginia P. Hobar November 17, 1925 - December 4, 2005 Virginia P. Hobar, 80, of Marshalls Creek, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, with Steven, her beloved husband of 54 years, at her side. Born on Nov. 17, 1925, in State College, she was the daughter of the late Harry Glen and Mary Hope (Patton) Parkinson. Virginia was a graduate of State College High School, Brown's Business School of New York, and of Penn State College, where she majored in Liberal Arts and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She raised five loving sons, Stephen Glenn (who preceded her in death in 1976), Donald Patton, Jon Parkinson, Robert Jeffrey and James Edwin. "Nini" as she was affectionately known by all, was a kind and gentle person with a quick wit who lit up any room she entered with her poise, charm and smile. She enjoyed literature, the arts, skiing, bowling, cooking and more than anything else, being a devoted mother to her five sons. Surviving in addition to her lifelong love Steven, are sons, Donald, Jon and his wife, Patricia, James and his wife, Marcia, and Robert; sister, Anna Hope Overholts; and four beautiful grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha, Jamey and Nicholas. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Glenn, who passed away in 1976, and brothers and sisters, John Patton, Alice Jane, Harry Glenn, Jr. and Edwin Woodrow. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg. Rev. Jeffrey Brower of the Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church will officiate. Her cremains will be interred in the Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown. A visitation for family and friends will take place from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 63 N. Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701. Arrangements made through Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home 27 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
