Bruce Nesbitt Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bruce Donathan Nesbitt II of Carrollton, Texas, who left this world on October 24, 2025, at the age of 67, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable style.
Born on September 11, 1958, in Champaign, Illinois, to Charlotte and Bruce D. Nesbitt, both of whom preceded him in death, Donathan lived a life defined by connection and joy.
Growing up in a place where everyone knew his name - whether you called him Donathan, Dee, or Duck - he made an unforgettable impression. The second of four children, he cherished his family deeply. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Holy Cross, later continuing at Edison Middle School and Urbana High School.
In 2009, Donathan and his family relocated to Texas, where he continued to bring his signature charm and humor to everyone he met. He worked as a bellman at the Omni Hotel, a role that perfectly matched his warmth, wit, and natural gift for making people feel welcome.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvette (Cooper) Nesbitt, of nearly 35 years, his children, Destiny Nesbitt and Donathan Neko Nesbitt. Also mourning his loss are his siblings, Terri L. Nesbitt, David L. Nesbitt, and Valeri Nesbitt-Howard, and his honorary brother, Moses Long. His grandchildren include Meyah Gatson, Orlando Gatson, Je'Miyah Biggers, Dezire Brigham, and De'zure Primm, as well as his great-granddaughter, Jaiah Thomas.
From an early age, Donathan had a presence that could light up any room. Whether cracking a one-liner, sharing wisdom, or tossing out his trademark phrase - "Ya dig" - he turned ordinary moments into cherished memories. Friends often called him one of the coolest OGs to ever walk the streets of Champaign-Urbana. He had his own way of talking and style of dress. From his sharp suits to the stylish hats that topped them, or a favorite baseball cap when taking it easy, he always stood out. And let's not forget his love to step to almost any song that played; Donathan could always find the rhythm. When Donathan was around, there was never a dull moment - just laughter, good vibes, and the easy confidence that made everyone feel like family.
He was a loyal friend and a man who carried himself with grace and pride. Donathan could make anyone laugh, yet he also knew how to speak from the heart. Many remember the powerful words he shared at other homegoings - moments that revealed his wisdom, compassion, and deep love for his people.
Bruce Donathan Nesbitt II will forever be remembered for his gift of connection and his unapologetic authenticity. His humor, love, and style - both in speech and dress - will be cherished by all who knew him.
Though his voice is quiet now, his presence lives on in every smile, every memory, and every "Ya dig" spoken in his honor.
A celebration life will commence 12:00 noon Saturday November 8, 2025 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave. Urbana. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of the service.
