Harvey Works Obituary
Harvey Eugene Works of Decatur, Illinois answered the Master's call and transitioned from life to eternal rest on October 16,2025, at the age of 78.
Harvey was born in Southern Missouri in the city of Parma located in Stoddard County on November 17,1946 to the union of William and Letha (Banks) Works.
Harvey was a veteran of the United States Army where he served for three years and was honorably discharged.
God blessed Harvey with three children Darrell, Stephanie, and Harvey Jr. to the union with Billie Sue Works. His son Harvey Jr. preceded him in death. Harvey married Gloria Davies Johnson on May 21, 2005. To that union he was blessed with two bonus daughters Pamela and Kendra.
Harvey was employed at North Folk and Southern Railroad for 16 years until his retirement. He also started his own business of H & G Properties and helped many people with finding homes.
Harvey gave his life to Christ at a young age. He loved the lord and had a will and a desire to serve the Lord wholeheartedly. He was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church for 25 years where he served in many capacities: Deacon, Sunday School Teacher/ Assistant Superintendent, Overseer of Building and Grounds, and Facilities manager of the church and its properties.
In his free time, he coached and mentored many youth in the community. He was a part of the Torrence Park Adult Club and Neighborhood Watch. Harvey had a love for all sports.
Harvey leaves to cherish his loving memories: his devoted wife of 20 years, Gloria Works, children: Darrell (Robin) Works, Stephanie Works, bonus children: Pamela (Hassan) Helm, Kendra Patterson, Jr. Bond: Sister, Genevieve (David) Adams; Sister-in-law, Ethel Works; Aunt, Dollie Banks; Harvey's grandchildren had a soft spot in his heart and include: Kyler Works, Raevn Works, Damien Law, Darius(Ravon) Newbern, Olivia Hodges, Tahja Works, Ciara Wilder, Keemyia Works, Brylan(Alison) Helm, Breyanna Helm, Darien Patterson Jr., Karrine Patterson, 23 great-grand kids with a host of nieces and nephews, best friends Johnnie Ricks and Pat Dawson.
He was preceded in death by his son, parents, grandparents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters and grandson- Darrell Works Jr.
Harvey was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, who will be deeply missed, but will remain forever loved in our hearts.
