A. J. Derek Lygo
RIVER HILLS -- A. J. Derek Lygo, age 82, of River Hills, died comfortably at his home on Friday, May 18, 2007.
Born February 14, 1925 in England, Mr. Lygo was a son of the late Reginald George and Selina Whitehouse. He was the Chairman of International Bridge Systems in New Orleans, Louisiana, Founder and Managing Director of MTL/Modern Terminals Ltd. in Hong Kong - the highest volume computerized container shipping port worldwide 1971-1982 which opened the China/U.S.A. marketplace, Deputy Chairman for Dunning & Associates Ltd. and Managing Director of Lark International Ltd. in Hong Kong, Developer/Owner Spinnaker Sound Marina Ltd. in Brisbane, Australia. Mr. Lygo was formerly World President of General Stevedoring Council in Rotterdam, various maritime boards in Hong Kong, member of the Blue Ribbon Development Committee for Airport Expansion in Palm Springs, Calif., Rotary International, Secretary of the Save the Children Fund in London, and Chairman of the Wilmbleton Village Association in London. An avid golfer, he was a member of various international golf clubs. In later life, Mr. Lygo became a W.G.A. script writer and author of his own memoirs call 'The Last Days of the Arrogant Colonial'.
Surviving are his artist wife, Carolyn Ryznar Lygo; his seven children, Duncan Lygo of Sydney, Australia, Ruth Dingley of Sutton-Cold-Fields, England, David Lygo of London, England, Fiona Watson-Streets of Surrey, England, Kim Lygo of London, England, Clare Lygo Yarn of Portland, Maine and Andrew Lygo of Sydney, Australia; his sister, Pauline Ferguson of Sutton-Cold-Fields, England; and 11 grandchildren, James, Sara, Alex, Hannah, Jonathan, Benjamin, Lucy, Tiffany, Amber, Taylor, and Cooper. Also surviving are the mothers of his children, Mary Smith Lygo of Portland, Maine and Betty Lygo of London, England.
Wolfe Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
