Albert McCloy Obituary

Albert James McCloy
HICKORY -- Mr. McCloy, 69, of 12th Street Lane NE, passed to his reward on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at home after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. McCloy was born in Circle, Montana on April 30, 1934 to Jack and Mary McFetridge McCloy, early Irish pioneers to Eastern Montana. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCloy was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Ramelle Wolfe McCloy and three brothers, William John, Robert Elmo, and David Alexander.
Raised on a ranch, Mr. McCloy was educated in small rural schools, McCone County High School, and Montana State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and flew single engine fighter aircraft for the Marines until 1962. For five years, he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co. and the NASA Moon Rocket Program in Huntsville, AL. He joined the General Electric Co. in Hickory for the next 27 years until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. McCloy is survived by his wife, Catharine Heilman Wood McCloy; five sons, John McCloy and Shawn McCloy of Hickory, NC, Lt. Col. Darin McCloy, currently stationed in Bagdad, Iraq (home port Camp Lejeune, NC), Kevin McCloy of Morganton, NC, Collin McCloy of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and one daughter, Kathleen Milatz of Charlotte, NC. Mr. McCloy has 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at St. Albans Episcopal Church Friday, April 30, 3:00 PM. Interment will follow in St. Stephens Lutheran Church ELCA Cemetery. Friends will be received in the Fellowship Hall of St. Albans Episcopal Church following the interment.
Active pallbearers are Jim Morton, Bill Owens, Dick Brands, Ed Schott, Larry Robinson, Gary Rayle, Bob Pharr and Shannon Smith. Honorary pallbearers are members of St. Albans' Choir and Dr. Richard Dickey.
Memorials may be made to the Hickory Choral Society, 243 3rd Ave. NE, Hickory, NC 28601; St. Albans' Music Program, 130 39th Ave. NW, Hickory, NC 28601; or to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
