Alfred Fowler "Al" MONROE - Mr. Alfred "Al" Fowler, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from Carolina Medical Center-Union, surrounded by his loving family and Friends. Al was born August 8, 1926 in Union County, N.C., the son of the late Randolph F. and Mable Presslar Fowler, he was also preceded in death by five siblings: Floyd Fowler, Morrison Fowler, Melvin Fowler, Louise Baker and Juanita Gluyas. Al started his career in the Automotive Industry in the 1940's beginning with Quality Chevrolet, having mastered every phase from service, sales and management. He enjoyed tremendously his association with Key Oldsmobile and Cadillac in Monroe. He had numerous business contacts throughout the South East and made many friends that has lasted his lifetime. For the last 20 years, Al was an outstanding performer with Griffin Motor Company of Monroe. He was a Master Mason of Monroe Lodge # 244, past Worthy Patron of Monroe Eastern Star #113, a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge,a War World II Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 27, and a member of Rolling Hills United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Starnes Fowler of the Home; one son, Alfred Lamar Fowler of Pine Lake Ga.; one daughter, Phyllis Fowler Gray of Marietta Ga.; two grandchildren, Whitney Fowler Gray of Marietta Ga., Hunter Lane Gray of Chapel Hill N.C.; one brother, Wayne Fowler of Indian Trail N.C.; three sisters, Doris Starnes, Shirley Medlin and Mildred Honey-cutt all of Monroe N.C., 37 nieces and nephews; a special niece, Sandy Fowler Rhyner of Monroe N.C.; two sisters in law,Betty Fowler and Peggy Starnes Keziah both of Monroe N.C.; two special friends since their first employment with Quality Chevrolet in 1946, Edith Kimmerling of Charlotte N.C., and Bernice Day Rowell of Indian Trail N.C. The family will receive Friends, Friday evening, July 27, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Services to celebrate the life of Al will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the McEwen Colonial Chapel with Reverend Don Thompson officiating, interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park with full military rites. The family would like to extend special thanks to; Dr. John Vick, Jackie Greene and the entire staff of Union Family Practice, Dr. Ramarao Suresh and staff, Dr. Gregory Brouse and Staff, to the staff of Union Regional in Home Health Care, The staff of Carolina Medical center-Union and to the special friends who meant so much to Al. Uncle Al was a truly good man and will be missed dearly. He's walking tall and his voice is strong now he's with our God and Savior.
