Annette Mize Obituary

Annette Mize

August 30, 1949 - August 8, 2025

Waxhaw, North Carolina - Elsie 'Annette' Lane Mize, 75, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, August 8th, 2025. Born on August 30th, 1949, in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, and raised in Roxobel, North Carolina, Annette was a deeply kind person who never met a stranger, her life a testament to her love for family and community.

She found great joy in life's simple, beautiful moments-the vibrant sunrises and sunsets she paused to appreciate each day, the gentle swaying of the trees in her backyard, and the visiting wildlife, including more than a few stray cats who became members of the family. Her love for music was boundless, with tastes ranging from the soaring classical performances of Pavarotti and Itzhak Perlman to the timeless voice of Elvis and the heartfelt harmonies of bluegrass and gospel. She loved sharing her gorgeous singing voice in church, inspiring and uplifting all who heard it. She passed that passion on to her children, showing her loving support with her constant presence at every rehearsal and concert.

A woman of deep and abiding Christian faith, Annette's life was guided by the messages of forgiveness, charity, and duty. She taught her children that every person is deserving of respect and compassion.

After graduating from East Carolina University in 1972, Annette began her career as a kindergarten teacher. She later transitioned to the Accounting department at Piedmont Airlines, where her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and warm personality quickly made her a beloved colleague. Following the birth of her second son, she chose to dedicate herself to her family, becoming a devoted stay-at-home mother who instilled the values of hard work and faith in her children. She cherished her role as a wife, mother, stepmother, and grandmother.

Annette is survived by her loving husband, Dwight Wayne Mize, and her sons: Andrew Wayne Mize of Matthews, NC, and Christopher Dwight Mize (Natalie Butler) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her beloved stepchildren: Douglas Wayne Mize (Janet) of Greer, SC, and their children Rachel, Mary Katherine, and Kayla; and Lauren Mize Phillips (Joe) of Marietta, GA, and their children Grey and Wesley.

Her legacy of kindness, faith, and generosity lives on in her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 16th from 6:00–8:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Weddington, NC. A service to celebrate Annette's life will be held at the same location on Sunday, August 17th at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at 2:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC.
