Beulah Bland Obituary

Beulah Frances Grose Bland
'Boots'
Mrs. Bland died early Monday morning, September 27, 2004, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Carriage Club on Wednesday, September 29 at 1:00 PM with Dr. Roger Lakatos officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
Born February 21, 1914, in Egan, Tennessee, the daughter of James and Mary Grose, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ernest William Bland. Mrs. Bland is survived by her sister Ruth Richardson of Lugoff, SC; her two sons: James W. Bland and his wife Dottie, and Dr. David H. Bland and his wife Betty; her grandchildren: Dr. Mark L. Bland and his wife Janie, Matt W. Bland and his wife Anara, Steve Bland and his wife Patricia, and Dana Cowlishaw and her husband Tim Cowlishaw; and great grandchildren: Jackson Bland, Mason Bland, Carter Bland, and Kalen Bland.
Mrs. Bland was a member of the Flint Hill Baptist Church, but after she moved to the Carriage Club in Charlotte, the staff and residents made her a part of their family. Her faith was nurtured by Dr. Roger Lakatos, pastor of Providence Community Church for the Carriage Club.
Mrs. Bland supported her husband in his career in highway construction and was always 'tending' to her boys. Of course they never became too old to need 'tending to.' She left all with a legacy of unselfish giving and a deep commitment to family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 36507, Charlotte, NC 28236.
Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd., online at www.hankinsandwhittington.com.

Boots was a beautiful person inside and out. She would brighten your being with a smile, kind word, or a listening ear.

I met Boots through dear friend, Wanda Brehm, who is deceased. Boots baby sat Wanda's children, Missy and JJ. Wanda loved Boots and I know the feelings were mutual.

I always enjoyed Boots when she came to the Beauty Shop for haircuts. She had a voice that you loved to listen to and she always had a sweet message to go with it.

People come into our lives for a reason, Boots was a special "lady."

My trips to the farm in Tennessee were always highlighted when Aunt Boots was there. She was a great storyteller and I loved to listen to the stories of my daddy and my aunts and uncles growing up. She was part of a very special family.

I can truly say that Aunt Boots was one of my most favorite people. She had such a zest for life and was such a joy be to be around. I will miss her greatly but am left with many fond memories.

One of my most cherished memories of Aunt Boots is probably close to 18 years old. We were in Tennessee and it had rained and she looked and looked for a 'sled' that she could ride down the hill on. She was in her 70's and she was going to teach our children (who were probably 2 & 4 at the time)the basics of sledding since they had never seen snow - and she said wet grass was as fast as snow anyway. It still makes me smile to think that this vibrant, wonderful woman was so alive with the pleasure of life. It was always a treat to hear her tell stories about everything from her growing up to funny things that happened to her friends. She was such a treat and I am so proud for her to have been my aunt. My husband, our children and I will all miss her and hope that up there in heaven she has her special brand of 'chocolates'. We love you dearly Boots - Carole
