Blake Mitchell Obituary

Blake James Mitchell
Blake, 28, of Charlotte, NC, left to Heaven on July 30, 2004, once wrote, 'Slowly, everything seems to get better, prayed, dreamed, we could come together'. These were the unrecorded lyrics of a spiritual musician who knew his words would always bring light to his family and friends on any day.
Blake was born October 4, 1975 in Lake Forest, Illinois. At the age of eight, his family moved to Charlotte, NC, where he spent his youthful years learning about life with his family and friends. At age fourteen, he moved with his mother and brother on a cross-country journey to California.
Throughout his life, he touched so many lives that no words could describe this beautiful person. This angel was brought to us for 28 years to spread his goodness, love, humor, and passion for music.
Blake's life will be an echo in Heaven for all who knew him. His family and loved ones know his echo will whisper to all that need to hear; those who knew Blake understand the meaning of these words.
Blake's immediate family includes his father, Jim Mitchell; mother, Judy Romans; fiance, Liz Acosta; stepfather, Tom Romans; brother, Tyler; sister, Devon; step brother, Michael; step sister, Katie; grandmother, Flora Mitchell; grandmother, Til Maltes and family.
Tomorrow, August 4, 2004, his family will gather to celebrate his life at the Pineville Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service.
For those friends that desire, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity in his honor.

Twenty years! So much has happened, but you´re still in my heart, always. I´m living on the Nansemond River in Virginia now, got a boat, a little Z sports car. I´ve turned into a yipster or something. But I still hit every live show I can. Going to a Phish festival in a couple weeks. Wish I could see you there. I miss you brother, and Tyler. I´ll never forget those beautiful mornings on the water at your Dad´s dock, the sun hitting the side of the mountains in Lake Tahoe, and not having a care in the world. Much love Blake, thanks for watching over me.

Blake I just learned of your passing this week. It truly saddened me profoundly. I thought about you as the funny wild fun child I knew you as and I just wished that we/you Tyler & my sisters could have all met up again to remember our childhood together. Their were some really fun and really funny memories that we could have shared over dinner and drinks!
Our fathers met as young people as we were interduced by them. It truly saddened me that the families chapters have ended with this sad ending.

Blake was such a special person in my life, it is hard to sum up here. He was one of the best friends I could have ever wished for and I am thankful for the time we did have. He was always there just when I least expected it, but needed him the most. He will forever be missed by me, but always stay in my thoughts and heart. I know that he is here with us all rooting for us as always. And those who loved him will stay connected by his spirit.

All my sympathy and gratitude, Angie.

Blake and I lived in Lake Tahoe together for one short winter. Although we spent only a few months together, we were great friends. Every day I looked forward to coming home to Blake and his excitement over his music. My favorite framed photo is one with Blake and our roommates. Although it was taken 4 years ago, it still hangs in my dining room to remind me of the awesome times we had together. Blake is deeply missed by all those he touched while in Lake Tahoe. Tyler, our hearts go out to you.

I remember when Blake came to California a few years ago, and how excited his sister, Devon, was that he was finally coming here. It was February, and I had the honor of meeting him in the marina after his arrival. We talked of his love for music, and Devon was always so proud of her brother. She talked of him often and how she wanted me to play with him. I'm so sorry that we never got that chance. I'll always think fondly of you, Blake.

Judy and Family,

Blake was more like one of my sons, since we talked about our children so much. I always enjoyed watching him with the "Little Dudes", and I know they loved him too. Just thinking about some of the things that he did brings a smile to my heart. I hope that you can remember the good times and allow that to help with the healing of this sorrowful event.

Blake's presence in the world was truly special - the pages of comments before mine bear witness to that. I will always remember his incredibly gracious nature, wit and amazing musical talent fondly.

I was fortunate enough to have met

Blake through his sister Devon. At the first introduction I could tell he was a wonderful, caring, warm, funny, and talented guy. He was an amazing musician and song writer. Blake was one of the kindess person I have ever met. My deepest condolences to the family. My prayers are with you.

Blake...I can’t even say his name without smiling. So many memories and so many years that just wouldn’t have been the same without him. I will forever miss riding in my car listening to our “different” tastes in music and of course our margarita nights at El Cancun, to name a few. I loved him for his unbelievable originality, his truth-seeking outlook on life, his sarcastic and silly humor, his musical soul...and for the twinkley-eyed smile that could make you feel like the only person on Earth. I lost one of my “bright spots” in life and I am sure everyone that loves him feels the same. I’ll miss you forever, Blake. Til’ we meet again in the afterward...

My heart goes out to Jimbo, Judy, Tyler and Liz – may the happy memories make you smile and know that he is looking down smiling with you.

Dearest Judy&Family,

Although I only had the opportunity to know Blake for a short time, I do know that he was a very special, very loved individual. Blake was able to make everyone around him both comfortable and happy. His live has touched so many others, that there is not doubt that his memory will live on forever. My deapest simpathy. May Blake's life be remembered for all that he gave to others.

Judy, Tyler, Devon, and to all...

I send my best intentions to your entire family. I will remember so many wonderful times spent with Blake, your family, and friends in Monterey. Loads of laughs, stories, and amazing parties. Fishing on the dock in NC. Too many defining moments and wonderful memories to ever scroll through. I'll keep them all closely tucked away. Blake, you were always "the goods"! I'll miss you so much.

To Tyler, Liz, Jim, Judy, my deepest sympathies. Blake will always be remembered in my heart forever. He taught me so much about life, inspired me with his creativity... He was such a joy and inspiration. I loved him very much, and will always. I will always remember Blake shooting squirrels, or doing doughnuts with the VW, or winking at his audience as he strums the guitar, or jumping on the trampoline with a skateboard, or sitting in our favorite spot on his doorstoop beside the stone frog watching the sun go down, and playing the guitar. I think we all learned a lot from Blake. I know he is in heaven singing...I am so sorry Tyler...Liz.

Although I hadn't seen Blake in years, I feel like it was just yesterday that we were racing our go-karts around the cul-de-sac or building yet another tree fort somewhere in the neighborhood. Our friendship is a very special part of my childhood, and I thank him for all the memories.

To Blake's family & friends -

I keep you all in my prayers and know that Blake is looking down singing as he always did. I will never forget his unique sense of style and how it didnt matter where he went it was DC sneakers , jeans and a baseball cap to the side. That was blake's style. My prayers are with everyone and know that yes indeed heaven has one amazing angel up there now.

How to begin? The smile. A funny look. A wink. The laugh. The way he made you feel. The music. Being real is the one that sticks out the most. The, "Here is how I feel". To the family, just remember the FIRST'S. To Liz, we love you & bigg huggs! To everyone, think of your favorite lyric or song that reminds you the most, and play it. I'm going to go and watch The Matrix part 2. It was our FIRST date. GODSPEED BLAKE, save me a good seat for part 3.

I am so sorry to hear this tragic news. I have an endless amount of fond childhood memories of Blake from the years of growing up around the corner in Park Crossing and carpooling to school. From the go-kart riding, to the GNR music video we shot to send to MTV, to the "punch buggie" carpool game, to the Charlotte Latin tennis team, and trips to the lake. I never crossed paths with Blake again after he moved to California, but am deeply saddened that I will never be able to catch up on the good ole days with him. My deepest condolences to the family. My prayers are with you.

Blake was such a wonderful example to my boys Rory, Ryan and Casey Kelly when he use to babysit them. He was so loved by them and us. I will never forget what he did for Rory, when Rory had to get glasses and was made fun of at school, Blake (the coolest guy they knew) bought fake glasses and wore them around Rory so he would think they were cool.
