Carla Vaughn Obituary

Carla Liske Vaughn CHARLOTTE - On November 20, 2015, Carla Liske Vaughn lost her long and courageous battle against cancer that she was so determine to win. Carla was born on March 13, 1964, and was the daughter of Mary and Doyle Liske. She grew up in Charlotte, graduated Providence Day School and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with degrees in accounting and finance. She became a Certified Public Accountant and began her career with First Citizens Bank in Charlotte. After her marriage to Lee Vaughn, they moved to Bristol, Tennessee and she became controller for the city of Bristol. Several years later she was offered and accepted a position as controller for Virginia Intermont College. She held that position until her cancer diagnoses in October of 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband of twenty one years Lee Vaughn who died January 30, 2014. Carla and Lee are survived by their three children, twins Charlotte and Sarah, who are 16 years old, and their brother Reilly, who is 14. Besides the children, survivors are Carla's parents, Doyle and Mary Liske and Lee's mother Mrs. Harrold Vaughn; brother David Liske and his wife Julie and their children, Jacob, Kyle and wife Mary, Paige and husband Jonathan and their son Brently. Also surviving are Carla's brothers-in-law Steven Vaughn and his wife Caroline and their children Allen and Ann Lee, Vernon and wife Mary and their daughter Elizabeth. Throughout Carla's seven year battle she fought to survive long enough to see her daughter's graduate high school and hopefully Reilly too. Unfortunately she lost this battle, but not from lack of determination and courage. She never lost her sense of humor or beautiful smile and always responded emphatically when asked "how are you?" "I feel great". Although she lost her battle with cancer, she did succeed in her determination to create loving memories for her children and setting an example of how to face life's tribulations with skill, courage determination, optimism and aplomb. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 11:30 AM on Monday, November 30th. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials for the education of the children may be made to: Lee Vaughn Children's Fund, and mailed to Doyle T. Liske, 1300 Baxter Street, Suite 251, Charlotte, NC 28204. Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements (www.carolinafuneral.com).

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of loss. John 16:33 Jesus said I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Love in Christ,

To the Liske-Vaughn family:
There are no words to comfort you but know that God is with you and holding you tight. Carla was a beautiful light in this world that will carry on in her children. Many prayers!

Carla was a great friend - the most genuinely positive and sunny person I have been privileged to know. Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I was so sadden to learn of Carla's passing. She was such a good school friend. Even though she is with Lee, I will miss her so much. Christmas will not be the same without her yearly Christmas letter to look forward too. I have kept them all. My thoughts and prays are with the Liske and Vaughn family as they as grieve for the loss of a daughter, sister and mother. May God be with you all during this time.

Carla was one of those people in high school that always had a smile on her face, brought a smile to your face and never had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything! That is the way I will remember her! Mrs. Liske was my sixth grade teacher and I loved her! Thoughts and prayers to the entire family.

I did not know Carla, but her name was so familiar to me; I found her on Facebook. Wow! What an incredible mom / daughter. I will keep you (and her) in my prayers.

Blessings and Peace to you all~

Children and family,
Thank you for sharing your Mom with others. She was a funny, caring, and wonderful person. I have many fond memories of working with her at the City of Bristol. She and your dad were such an unique and wonderful couple. I will be praying for you all. God Bless You and peace to you all.

Doyle, Mary, and children: I am so very sorry to hear of your loss of Carla. You know that she is finally out of pain and at peace. Know you are in our prayers and thoughts. Only a parent who has lost their child truly knows the heartache that never goes completely away; having lost my Susan in 2012, my heart still aches but she too is at peace.
